Possibility of boosting score

Okay I do well on my Math section but I keep getting low 600's/high 500's on both of my CR and Writing sections. I'm trying to break 700 ( don't laugh) and I know that boosting a score depends on the individual but is it even possible with a lot of hard work to go up 200 points in each section?

BTW, I am going to be a junior this September. I also haven't taken the real SAT's yet.

It depends on how much you practice. But 200pts per section is difficult, and may not be realistic. Take baby steps and work your way gradually to the goal and see where you level off.

thanks. bump.

Ways to improve don't really vary depending on your ideal improvement, so posting this thread really won't do you much good. This forum is packed with tons of useful information (1,000 times more than you'll get on this one thread) about Writing and CR SAT prep, so I suggest doing some searches.

Yes, yes, it definitely is possible. I started studying for the SAT's in sophomore year and I'll never forget the first actual practice test I took. I got a 520 in Math and a 470 in Critical Reading. On the actual June SAT, I got an 800 in CR [with a lot of hard work] and a 780 in Math.

I think the writing section is easier to increase because you can practice the essay "formula" which has been talked about in a lot of different threads here. My D increased her Writing score 120 points after studying tips on CC. Here is one which my D found very helpful:

For CR read a variety of books and look up the vocabulary words you don't know. My D got an 800 on CR without studying for it but she is constantly checking out books from the library and reading plus she subcribes to an email service where they email you a new word to study each day. You can also play freerice.com which is fun.

Ok thanks guys.

hey ballin4ever, can you describe how hard you study for CR cuz I'm stuck :(

I got an 800, but all I did was take tons of SATs.

^ what does ton of tests mean? like 30 practice tests? how many hrs per week? etc

I took two practice tests per day for the three days before the test and got 2340 after a 216 PSAT. Just look for patterns, especially in math. It helps a lot.

Rocket Review writing section is very good. I went from a 620 on the real SAT to constantly getting in the 660-780 range on my last 3 College Board practice tests. There are a lot of patterns in the sentence corrections and once you learn the 14 grammatical rules in the book it's much more clear.

A ton means a practice test a day
