<p>Sorry for my excessive posting, but this might be helpful to others as well. If you received a nomination from a senator from lets say... the coast guard academy.. can you change your academy of choice after the senator/congressman has appointed you?</p>
<p>You would have to ask the MOC if that is possible. My guess would be probably not. Each MOC has an an allotment of available slots for each academy. Once a nomination is slated, it is gone for that year, unless something happens, like a kid who had a nomination to West Point decided not to pursue it and there was still time to make a change. But something like that happening is going to be very rare.</p>
<p>Unfortunately, your example was a poor choice (you had a one in five chance, sorry), since you do not need a nomination for the Coast Guard Academy, it is strictly competitive. And be clear about one other point, the MOC does NOT appoint anyone, they strictly nominate. Only each individual academy has the power to make an appointment.</p>
