Possibility of getting admitted off the waiting list

Hi guys, I got waitlisted for RD, and I was wondering if I will have a chance of getting admitted.
What should I do to convince admission that I am interested in attending? Since there was no essay for Case Western, I didn’t really understand how to demonstrate my interest in the school…but CWRU is obviously on the TOP of my list.

Any help is appreciated! Thanks!!

Also, does anyone think they will take more ppl from the wl this year?

Assuming CollegeData’s numbers are accurate (Very well may not be) the amount of students who accepted waitlist positions last year was 5,119, and the amount admitted from the waitlist was 518.

In the 2015-2016 CWRU CDS, I see

Offered place on wait list:9,446
Number accepting place on wait list: 5,119
Accepted from list: 518

So 10% get off the waitlist.

Case will ask you if you want to be on the wait list. Obviously say yes.

You may get a mail like:

Hi

Thanks for letting us know of your continued interest. We will provide more information on the waitlist in the coming weeks. Please be sure to respond to the email asking you to confirm your interest in the waitlist.

Feel free to write us back with further questions, or call 216.368.4450 Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m., to speak to an admission counselor.

Then you may get an email like:

"As we enter the final weekend before the National Candidate’s Reply Deadline of May 1, we have closely monitored the responses to our initial offers of admission and it appears that we will have a limited number of places available to admit students from the wait list. I am contacting you because you have indicated your interest in Case Western Reserve, and we would like to be able to consider your candidacy for the Class of 20XX.

If you are offered admission, you will also be offered a scholarship of $XX,000 per year. If you qualify for additional financial aid, we have also prepared a preliminary financial aid award for you, which you can view by logging into our financial aid portal at http://financialaid.case.edu/myfinancialaid.aspx. You will need your activated CWRU Network ID to login. Instructions on activating your ID are below.

Once you have reviewed this information, (and your financial aid, if applicable,) you will need to get in touch with us as soon as possible at admission@case.edu or 216.368.4450. Admission counselors will be answering the phone between 9 AM and 5 PM EST on Saturday and Sunday, and responding to email throughout the weekend.

The admission committee will also be meeting throughout the weekend, and we want to be able to extend offers of admission as quickly as possible to students like you who are most interested in becoming part of the Case Western Reserve community. Please be in touch with us as quickly as possible to let us know of your interest and with any questions you may have.

Once again, if you are interested in being admitted from the wait list and your scholarship and aid package makes it possible for you to attend, it is imperative that you respond to this email right away with an indication of your level of interest."

So they would only admit you if you would 100% attend, because at the waitlist point they want the admissions=enrollment.

My D was accepted off the waitlist last year. She could not be happier about her choice to wait it out. Last year some decisions did not come out until mid May! I don’t think I could point to one thing that got her off the waitlist but if I had to, it would be letting the school know this was your number one choice. Write a letter and make it personal as to the reason it is you number one school. Good luck, the wait can be painful. No matter where you go to school you should make it your own. The school does not define you, you do.

@newstudent2020 Thank you so much for your advice! Could I ask about if the school offered your daughter a satisfying financial aid package?

Merit was good in the low 20’s, I thought she qualified for much more but that’s how it goes. We don’t qualify for assistance. Again letting them know in as many ways this is where you want to be hopefully will help. Make sure you go to new student open house in April. Make sure you talk to the admin counsellors while there, you will have the opportunity to see them at the open house events. I hope it works out for you.

@newstudent2020 Are you saying you can go to a “new student open house in April” when you are only on the wait list? I thought those were only for admitted students? Or am I misunderstanding what you were referring to? Thanks for any insight you can share!

We attended one of the new student open house events. We emailed the admissions department and area recruiters and they had no problem with it and then registered online. When there we toured the campus, had lunch with students and staff, attended different department class room venues. While there she spoke with professors and admin staff. It’s a way to show interest. There is a cost of flying in and all of that so please don’t take this as what will get you accepted. After the visit follow up with your area recruiter and and admin staff if you are sure this is the #1 school of choice.

Thanks @newstudent2020. Very helpful to hear about your experience.

It’s hard to get off the waiting list for any school, so don’t be surprised if you don’t get in…
