Hello everyone. I am maybe being a little too paranoid about my second semester grades, but I was wondering if USC has ever or has a policy towards rescinding a trustee scholarship if second semester grades are in decline. Would they rescind for one C or a D, is there a "no D policy," or does USC just rescind admission and not scholarships? Thank you. I want to make sure I do not lose this amazing scholarship opportunity

I know you are looking for reassurance, but I feel it is better for you to hear the reality of the situation while there is still time to raise your grade: With a “D,” you are in danger of both losing your scholarship and your acceptance. Do not get a D. Make an immediate appointment with your teacher to discuss what you must do to raise the grade(s).

While there is a slight possibility they would allow you to keep your acceptance even with a “D” if you were able to explain it as something other than “senioritis,” a Trustee Scholarship would no longer be an option for you.

This thread http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-southern-california/683809-senior-grade-issues.html#post7787479 includes an example from last year (post #11) of a student that had been awarded the Trustee having the scholarship revoked because of a “D” on the transcript. The student did not have their admission rescinded and was allowed to attend at their own expense.

yeah, i also recieved the trustee scholarship this year, and i’m worried. im not in danger of any c’s or d’s, but what about just alot of b’s? i mean, my transcript already has some b’s on it, so that wouldnt show intense slacking. mostly, i am worried because i got bumped from presidential and i feel like i need to prove that it was the right decision for them. the worst part is that im trying really hard but i signed up for difficult classes this year! im not even slacking lol! :)

Doe rescindance usually happen because of a very low grade in one class, like a D, or can it happen if every class dropped one letter grade?

If there’s a sudden drastic shift; say all A’s to three-four Ds, expect to be rescinded, but if it’s one C or a few Bs, i wouldn’t worry too much

I went from

4 A’s 1 B to

1 A, 3 B’s, 1 C.

how is that shift?

you should be fine

apologies for reviving this old thread, but would first semester C grade to a second semester D get me rescinded at USC? And if it would, is there anything i can do about it? (online classes, 5 on the AP test, etc.) The rest of my classes are B’s

Though it isn’t a certainty, yes, a grade of D has the possibility of triggering USC to rescind your admission. As it is only March, my advice would be to make an appointment with your teacher to discuss how you can improve, hire a tutor, do extra credit, ANYTHING to ensure you get at least a C- in the course. In addition, you might sign up to retake the course in summer school or at the local JC just in case. If you do receive the D, contact USC immediately with your proposals to retake - they may say that it is okay and no action is required, but if not you will be ready to do what is required. Don’t wait for them to receive your transcript halfway through summer to address the issue.

It would be much easier to work hard to improve your grade in the next two months…
