I was wondering if it’s possible to change my screen name but keep everything else.
Didn’t Jonathan1 change his name?
I think you’d have to contact a moderator and ask for it…
which one?
I want to know too!
just any mod, or roger_dooley?
venkater/ venkat89 has changed his a couple times.
how? .
I don’t know… he said he talked to the mods about it.
he had a better reason than his SAT score changing though.
that’s not my only reason.
lol, what’s your other?
well…um…I guess it’s kinda hard to be taken seriously in the SAT prep forum because of it - yes i know a 200 pt difference won’t make that big a difference but my new sn will not display any score information.
I know this is an old thread, but I’m interested in this, too. I use this screenname everywhere (instant messenger, LiveJournal, etc.), which didn’t feel like such a big deal in high school when nobody I knew in person read this site. Now that I’m in college I’m beginning to feel too easily identifiable, and I’d love to know if it’d be possible to change to something less transparent.
bumping this thread up – as I’m wondering too if it’s possible to change a screen name or how one goes about opening a thread under a new screen name. thanks for any advice.
I think the issues are that:
A) It would be confusing reading archived posts;
B) People would quote your words and say “old screename, blah, blah, blah.”. Then, when people saw your post with the new name above, you could associate the new name with the old.
If the name change applied to new posts but kept postcount:
A) It would either have to show old posts in search (with the old name, exposing the switch), or;
B) It would show only the posts under the new alias. Take the number of posts findable under the new alias, subtract that from the post count. Then you have the post count of the old, and you can identify who it is.
No, the easiest way is to just register a new screen name. Yeah, your rank is low again, but it’s the only reliable solution.
Coopjust has summarized it quite well.
From the College Confidential Terms of Service:
Any request for exceptions to this policy requires communication with the Forum Moderating team who review such requests with the Site Adminstrator.
The only solution is to stop using the first account and re-register (with permission). Even with permission, the member “loses” the accumulated posts.
