Do you think that an essay about growing up as a Muslim in the Midwest, Post 9/11, would be a good essay topic? I am afraid that it might be too controversial.

depends how you write it. It sounds cliche to me though. ADCOMs are sick of reading 9/11 stories, trust me. In reality, most people have forgotten out 9/11 and don't care. If you don't believe me just look at Bush's 26% approval rate. if the USA was gun ho about 9/11 and terrorism, most of USA wouldn't be against Iraq's occupation. It sounds bad, but America really doesnt care anymore. BUSH'S Approval rate post 9/11 was like 96%. UNHEARD Of.

If the essay is personal--detailed, honest and revealing about you and your experiences--it could work. You need not even mention 9/11, just talk about your experiences.
