Possible Essay Topics

Hey guys, well I'm gonna start writing my common app essay soon and wanted to get some feedback on my possible essay topics. They're kind of based on religion, kind of.

1. Background, I am like a product of a religious movement that believes that there has to be true love in life and marriage and stuff. I know it's kind of vague, but that's that. So, I work in a summer camp in Bridgeport CT, and so does my sister. This one day I was sitting next to this girl and she sees my sister and asks me, "is that your sister?" I say yes, and then she asks me, "do you have the same mom and dad?" She's like 9,and I know with divorces and stuff this isn't that big of a deal or whatever, but idk, this might be something I write about, comment on the state of marriage and stuff. It's complicated, what i want to write about. Don't judge me haha. And I know I'm not supposed to be preaching my beliefs or whatnot.

2. Like I said before, religious movement, blah blah. So I might want to write about that faith that is required to be in a movement like ours. That's what sets me apart from the other 20,000 applicants that apply to these colleges. Talk about my faith as a kind of quality or virtue that I have. I'm a sciencey type of guy, and a lot of science requires proof or something like that, but faith is a different type of thing. Idk. Is that a bad thing to write about?

And for my EC essay I'm thinking of writing either about Ultimate Frisbee or playing piano. I think ultimate frisbee. I'm going to write about how I'm helping the club start to go from club level to interscholastic level. Like helping to set up games with other schools and stuff.

I'm still thinking about more topics, but these two are what I've come up with so far. Yup thanks for reading this wall of text, and giving me any advice

Science versus faith is a bit overdone. I would not write about your religion or compare it to science, because to anyone less religious than you it will appear insincere or hypocritical. Unless you are applying to a parochial college, I would keep your beliefs to yourself.

what about the first one? I see what you’re saying about the science thing.

Unless you are a mormon and are applying to mormon schools, i think you might be out of your league for talking about marriage
