I am shaking my head and planting my face in my hands. I don’t need to play into this nonsense. I am done here. I hope OP gets an answer from their school.
No, her statement is not wrong. You are trying to twist her words around. The aid that is being referred to is clearly the Pell grant itself. If a student qualifies for the Pell grant, the student will receive the Pell grant. That’s what makes it an entitlement. The same cannot be said of all financial aid.
Do not accuse me of twisting someone’s words when that is NOT what is being done. You are jumping on a bandwagon and attacking a student who actually knows more than you do about this when you lie and accuse me of twisting someone’s words and should be ashamed of yourself! And yes, the blanket statement that a Pell grant is an entitlement for anyone eligible for aid is incorrect. Directly from the Federal Student Aid administration website at Federal Student Aid, the Pell grant is not a guaranteed entitlement if you “qualify for aid”.
Federal Pell Grants usually are awarded only to undergraduate students who display exceptional financial need and have not earned a bachelor’s, graduate, or professional degree. (In some cases, however, a student enrolled in a postbaccalaureate teacher certification program might receive a Federal Pell Grant.) You are not eligible to receive a Federal Pell Grant if you are incarcerated in a federal or state penal institution or are subject to an involuntary civil commitment upon completion of a period of incarceration for a forcible or nonforcible sexual offense."
If you qualify for the Pell grant, you will get it. Period. That’s all that kelsmom was saying, and yet you tried (and are still trying) to turn what she wrote into something it’s not. That’s twisting words. And no, you do not know more about this than me. I can guarantee you that. No attacking here, just explaining.
Moderator’s Note: This thread has become a debate on the meaning of words. I think the OP has the essential info needed so I will close.
