Possible Gap Year/Unified Walk-ins

Hello. I have been debating whether or not a gap year would be best for me. After talking with my voice coach, it seems that I may not be able to get in to any schools this year. I have applied to a few schools already and I plan on auditioning for those for the experience (what does it hurt?) and I'm toying with the idea of doing walk-ins for a few other schools at Unifieds in LA. I'm not sure at all how to go about doing this and I don't know what schools will be taking walk-ins or how to find out. Has anyone here done this in the past who would be able to let me know what it's like?

If, in the end, I don't get accepted anywhere or am not happy with my choices I will be taking a gap year. What sort of things can I do in that year? Are there any musical theater training programs that are only a month or a semester long that I could do before auditions next year? What other types of training should I make sure to pursue?

:)

Here are some of the past threads that have discussed gap years:

Depending on where you live there are certain 6 month to 1 year programs you can take like its said in those threads.

Speaking from personal experience a gap year is really just your time to reorient yourself. It’s also better in your case because you’d already know the program you wanna pursue so you wouldn’t have that long “I’m trying to figure out what I wanna do” period of time. I would also say if there are no programs around or if you just don’t wanna be in a school setting at all for the year (was my case) then you can do community theatre, commercials or really any gigs you wouldn’t be able to do if you were in college. Gives you good experience, another credit on your theatre resume and you would have something to show for when you do audition again. Besides all that you could also just travel or whatever but I won’t ramble on :)
