<p>I helped found an all-girls school for disadvantaged girls and I now serve on the student advisory committee. I volunteer there only about 2-3 hours a week. Could this be considered a hook?</p>
<p>wow you founded a school? what part did you play in this? seems like a pretty big deal and could definitely be used as a hook, but you'd have to talk about it in your essay though, otherwise you'd give up a lot of details.</p>

<p>I legitimately helped found it, but I will admit I played a fairly minimal role. Basically, I go to a catholic school and one of the nuns was discussing the possibility with me so I got really excited and started working with her. I mostly just talked with local businesses about donating money and helped formulate admissions criteria. Now my job is mostly volunteering and getting the word out that we exist. btw, if you want to visit the site it's serviamgirlsacademy.org</p>

<p>If you want to use that as a hook you better be darn sure you really did a lot of the work. Like the previous post, if you just moved a couple boxes, I don't think I would use that hook.</p>
