Possible HYPSM CC collaboration?

Hi guys!

Is it just me, or do things seem to have gotten somewhat slow around here? I got into the habit of checking the Stanford board religiously when I was applying SCEA, and still frequent it daily. It seems that there hasn't been anything interesting going on as of late.

We had some great times. I remember when current Stanford freshmen came in to ask questions, I remember when we were all freaking out over EA decisions by phone, I remember when SCEAers were all happy about getting the Stanford alumni magazine and letter from the math department....

So I have an idea, a project, if you will: how about we try to collaborate with other CC seniors who are in the same slow period of the college admissions process as we are? We can create a viewbook of CC memories (there was a thread somewhere on the most interesting Princeton CC "spats"--good times were had by all); we could try to make the college process easier for the next class; we could be productive and invent something. :D Sounds like a lot of work, but it won't be too bad if distributed over a certain critical mass of people.

Thoughts, ideas, comments? Post here.

hahahaha...wow

ditto that Cardinal...

wow bad or wow good?

possibly a bit too ambitious, I agree....

P.S: By "HYPSM" I was referring to all active and engaged boards, not just Harvard, Stanford, Princeton, Yale, and MIT, of course

wow...as in...um...I think we should spend our last few months at home doing other things than make a viewbook on a discussion website. no offense...it is a good idea, but it's just a college discussion site.

Lol..GET A LIFE!

Everyone here has a penchant for being mean lol

I think that's a good idea, someone. Ignore them.

P.S. How was the San Fran admit weekend? I know an actual person who went.

The Stanford board has slowed down because most of the SCEA admits are now using the Stanford09 yahoo group. Many current stanford students, such as the early admit website designers, admission reps, ect. also post on the group board regularly. You should definitely visit it.

cardinal and word
I'm super busy as it is; it may surprise you, but I do indeed have a life :D. Just thought it would be a nice gesture

tore
thanks

jellybean
san fran was great--it was actually at stanford so we got to meet all the special stanford people (the freshman dean, the vice provost of undergraduate education, the special assistant to the president, etc.) and introduce ourselves. lots of fun

paulhomework
thanks, I'll go visit

hey someone,

I didn't mean for my comments to offend you. I'm sure you have a life...I did not imply anything otherwise by my comments. what i meant was that it is just a college discussion website...whats the point of making a viewbook? we can certainly keep helping next year's seniors by continuing to visit the site...but a viewbook I think would be going a little too far...dont take it personally dude!

don't worry dude, no offense at all taken!!

you're right; perhaps just coming back to visit will be enough help for next year's class...

wow, i thought "dude" and stanford kids was just a stereotype - or a phrase of the 90's with surfers, but who knew it was still popular

I think we're going to have to get used to "dude" and "hella" for the next four years. Is there any other lingo we need to know (besides the Stanford-specific stuff on the Stanford Speak page)?

hehe....ummmm....apart from "dude," "hella," and "like," I don't think there's too much :D

can anyone translate "hella" into east coast english?

hmmm...it's like "very," I suppose; it's an adverb used for emphasis

I think it originated as a shortening of "hell of," as in:

"this project is one hell of a pain" -->
"this project is one helluva pain" -->
"this project is hella painful"

:)

im from SoCal...so we use "dude" and "like" often. we still speak with the Clueless vocabulary (By clueless, I mean the movie). we dont use words like "hella" down here...just nor cali...I guess I'll have to start learning how to use that for next year. :-D

Spend a little time on the Harvard, Princeton, or Yale boards and you will be struck by the amount of ill-will, neurosis, insecurity, anxiety, and defeatism. Posters on this board seem so much more friendly, open, un prestige-obsessed. So it's a little dull from time to time, it's so much nicer.

Hahaha, Cardinal 09's right. We use "dude" and "like" here in SoCal, but rarely "hella."
