I got this email from Duke today:
"Dear Prospective Blue Devil […]:
Greetings from Duke University! In recognition of your strong academic and extracurricular accomplishments, the Office of Undergraduate Admissions and the Black Student Alliance are delighted to invite you to the Black Student Alliance Invitational (BSAI). This annual program for prospective Duke undergraduates will be held Thursday, March 26 to Sunday, March 29. We hope you will join us for a special weekend! We also want to let you know about Blue Devil Days, our two-day programs in April for all admitted students and their parents.
During BSAI, you will join outstanding African-American students from across the country in an exciting community-building event. A tentative agenda for the weekend is on the invitation, and you’ll notice that the schedule, just like life at Duke, strikes a balance among various facets of the college experience. You will sample life at Duke and learn more about our exceptional students, faculty, and facilities. The weekend will include activities across the community as well as events designed to introduce students to our specific African-American community. We know that once you have spent this weekend with us, you will understand what it means to be a Blue Devil.
In order for you to have a meaningful experience at our program, we ask you to plan to arrive on Thursday, March 26, no later than 3 p.m., and that you stay for the entire event. Space is limited—please be sure to let us know just as soon as possible whether you will be able to join us.
If you plan to attend the Black Student Alliance Invitational please register online at admiss.ugrad.duke.edu/register/BSAI. The online registration form requests, among other things, that you provide us with information regarding your mode of travel to Durham. Please be certain to detail your travel plans so we may arrange local shuttle service for your transportation to campus if you are arriving by airline, Amtrak, or by bus. Upon registration, you will receive additional information regarding travel, meals and housing. You and a parent or guardian must also fill out both sections of the liability release form and either scan and send by email to sandra.lipscomb@duke.edu, or fax to 919-681-8941, or return by mail to the address below.
The deadline to register is Monday, March 23, 2015. Please understand that this invitation is meant for you. We ask that you do not forward this email to fellow Duke applicants. We are unable to invite every student who applied for admission and will continue to invite students as space allows. If you have any questions, feel free to contact Sandra Lipscomb at 919-684-0183 (sandra.lipscomb@duke.edu) or me at 919-684-0159 (will.dixon@duke.edu).
There is limited financial assistance for transportation for those Regular Decision applicants who qualify. If you feel that you need financial assistance, please send an email request to Sandra Lipscomb at sandra.lipscomb@duke.edu and include the following:
1 reasons for needing assistance,
2 preferred departure airport (include city and state) arriving at Duke for Thursday,
3 preferred arrival airport (include city and state) arriving home for Sunday, and
4 cell phone.
Mrs. Lipscomb will promptly notify you as to whether or not your request has been approved.
If you are unable to attend BSAI, or would rather attend Blue Devil Days, you are welcome to do so. More information, including how to register for Blue Devil Days, will be included in the packets we send to admitted students.
We look forward to welcoming you to Duke!
Willie O. Dixon, IV
Assistant Director"
