The title says it all; I have 3 semesters under my belt with a GPA of 1.8ish (expecting), and all the community colleges I've looked at state they want transfer students with GPA's of 2.0+. I want to know what my chances are of getting into a CC or even a 4 year CUNY school. In the event I don't get in, what are my options if I want to go back to school after "dropping out"? How do I re-enter the school system?

Apply to some community colleges and include an explanation as to why your college GPA is so low, and how you are determined to turn your academic career around, including some specific steps you have taken. Once you get in, you will have to demonstrate that you have in fact made strides in picking up your game, by earning good grades in all your classes. If you can earn an Associate’s degree with a GPA that has exhibited a steady upward trend, then you have a reasonable chance to transfer from there to a CUNY (or SUNY). Otherwise, you don’t.

After getting in, if my GPA gets back to a 2.0+ range in a semester, can I transfer to a CUNY school then? I think a few winter courses can even get me into the 2.0 range to be eligible for transfer.

Thanks ALF
