So I recently just finished my freshman year and I just switched into the geography program. My adviser told me that most students within the major had a minor to go along with it. I thought about it, and I’ve narrowed it down to three options:
- Geography/Meteorology double major. Out of the three, I think it will give me the best job prospects and pay off in the long run. The only downside is the course work is harder than the others for meteorology.
- Public and Urban Affairs minor. This one interests me a lot because I think it would prepare me to work with the local government if they were to hire me within the GIS department.
- Environmental Policy and Planning minor. This one is also very interesting to me because it would prepare me to be a future urban planner. However, i would need to go to grad school for that and that is something that I don't know if I want to do right now.
I would love to hear your thoughts on each option. What possible jobs would I have with each? Which has the most favorable job market? Any GIS people out there that could give me some help?
Thanks guys!
