Possible pre-med with no idea of major

Hey. I am thinking of going into pre-med, though that's not definite. I'm planning on taking all the requisite courses though. Having said that, I do know that I have absolutely no idea what my major will be.

I'm considering MCB, history, psychology as my top three choices. I'm also considering anthropology. Heck, there are more majors that I want to explore. I really do not have a strong idea of what I want to do.
My fall 2006 schedule:
History 24 Seminar, Chem 1a, Math 1a, History 5. I wanted to take Psychology 1, but I want to stay at 13 units.

I'm scared that it'll come time for me to declare and I will not have satisfied any major requirements. Assuming I utilize summer classes for some of my pre-med requirements, can I use my first two years to explore the wide range of majors I'm considering? Should I be more decisive now? I realize this is a wishy washy question, I'm sorry...but I'm just getting scared that I'm being too indecisive.

I think it's a good schedule, you get two possible major prereqs down (chem and history) and math is always a good way to go. I heard Chem 1A is killer though--but then again, I don't know much about science classes...just be confident that sooner or later you'll defintely figure it out, maybe even after this semester. I'm the same way--scared because I'm not quite sure where my true interests lie--but hey, this is why we're at Cal eh?

Well, as far as the numbers game goes, MCB has the most lower div reqs with 9 classes, then Psych with 7 (but could go down to 4 depending on AP), then History with 4.
MCB: Chem1A, Chem3A/B, Physics8A/B, Math1A/B, Bio1A/B
History: one in US, one in Euro, one in elsewhere, one elec
Psych: Psych1 (can use AP, need a 4), one evolution, two from Bio (can use AP, need a 4), two from social sciences, and Stat (can use AP, need a 4)

Of course, it's not all a numbers game. If you're dabbling around a little bit and end up wanting to do MCB, you might have to cram in courses a little bit or do summer school so that you can declare on time. You should have absolutely no problem with time for history or psych, so you have lots more time to decide (come on, for history it's literally one lower div course per semester).

you're right...you don't have to be so decisive right now. you can and should use your first semesters to do what they call "controlled exploration". hopefully, you went to calso and heard a little bit about that. students, on average, change their mind about their major about four times before declaring. also, if you completed academic orienteering on the L&S website, then you should have an idea of how the prereqs for your possible majors overlap, allowing you to change your mind. the only thing i would say, though, is that you have less time to decide to do mcb than the other majors, since science majors have more prereqs and they're all sequential.

as for your schedule, it looks good. you're satisfying your premed requirements, and you you're getting a taste of history. you can use that class either for a history major or to satisfy a breadth requirement.
