Possible reason for deferral?

Hey all so by now everyone who applied EA has received their decisions back and I am seeing a lot of confusion from a lot about deferrals, including me.

I got deferred from both UMass Lowell and UMass Amherst to regular decision when my GPA is 3.4+, 1820 SAT (although I've retaken the exam and gotten a 1990), 2 APs, good class rank, and an incredible course load including courses at universities like UML. So does anyone have an idea why I got deferred? It may have to so with me applying into Engineering but with my courses and recommendations I thought I'd get in, maybe get in with my second choice major which I can't remember at the moment.

The deferrals and acceptances have been unusual this year. Engineering is a very competitive major. Make sure UMass has your improved SAT scores (Congrats! That is quite an improvement) and updates of your transcripts. Best of luck to you!

Both UMass Amhert and UMass Lowell have gotten much more difficult to be accepted to. UMass Lowell Engineering is an extremely competitive program. UMass Amherst is also a difficult admit. You may want to try UMass Dartmouth or UMass Boston. Both are easier admits. Keep you head up. You were deferred not denied. You still have a chance.
