So here is the deal.

Current GPA: 3.12

HOWEVER, I am going to fall below a 3.0 this semester, as I received my grades,
and now my GPA is 2.83

Anyways, I have been accepted with TAG

to UCI, UCR, UCSD, UCSB so far.

I was wondering, will my TAG be denied because of falling under the 3.0 gpa?

My major is Psychology

And I REALLY BADLY want to go to UCI!

Thanks

It is my understanding that you need a cumulative 3.2 GPA by the end of fall 2010 to maintain your TAG at UCSB. Also, you need to maintain a cumulative 3.0 GPA by the end of fall 2010 for UCSD’s TAG. I’m not sure about UCI, because they state that you need a 3.0 by end of SUMMER, not FALL. So you may still be eligible (I’m not really sure though). Also, you only need a 2.4 for UCR’s TAG, which means your TAG won’t be denied.

You passed math and English requirement right?

My main concern IS UCI
Yes I have passed all English requirements, and Math requirements.

I really need to find out, I have been searching frantically,
but can’t seem to get any answers.

What do you think?

@n.tahmass: Your TAG will be rejected by UCSD for sure and (apparently) UCSB. UCI states that you must have a 3.0 the summer before the year you plan on enrolling, so summer of 2010 for fall of 2011. I don’t know what their requirements are after summer of 2010, but it’s a safe bet that you must maintain that 3.0.

It’s going to be tough for you to get into any of the schools you mentioned with a 2.83 other than UCR. You have a shot at UCI as a regular transfer, but it’s probably fairly low.

The worst part of this is that your spring grades won’t factor into your transfer decision, so you’re stuck with that 2.83.

So 3.0 before the summer.
AND they DONT count in the spring grades?
So that does basically deny’s the TAG in a sense right? I mean if my current GPA (after this fall) is 2.92 (i did it right this time, its NOT 2.83).

This is weird, I didn’t know they dont take into consideration
the spring grades!!!

so with a 2.92

considering spring grades dont count,
what are my chances at UCI with a regular application,
since tag will be denyed?

psych. major.

They only count up to your fall grades for your GPA. Like Grimes said, it seems like your chances of getting into UCI are pretty low. According to Statfinder, last year’s average GPA for Psychology transfers was 3.42 at UCI.

@berkeleyphil - You seem to know a lot about this issue at hand.

Could you please link me up to where you found that info at?

And also, what do you think my chances are for UCR?

*And also will my tag for UCR be revoked?
(because i got taged into ucr)

[University of California: StatFinder](http://statfinder.ucop.edu/)
^ this is the link of Statfinder. And I’m sure your TAG for Riverside won’t be revoked, but I’m not 100% positive. I’m not really familiar with TAG requirement for UCR, but from what I read on their website, you only need a 2.4 in order to maintain your TAG for UCR

@n.tahmass: Your admission decision is made before your spring grades come out, so that’s why your fall GPA is the last that counts into your admission decision. The UC you’re applying to doesn’t wait around for your spring grades before deciding. You’ll get your admission decision in March/April and your spring grades won’t post until June.

So yes, your TAG will be invalidated for a few of those schools.

You’re in at UCR regardless. They’re basically the ■■■■■■■ child of the UC system ;)

I got into UCI last year with a 3.03 in political science, but you have an uphill battle with a 2.92.

@Grimes999 - So what your saying is that I’ve got UCR FOR SURE … 100% ?
Especially since I tagged into it.

And when you get into UCI with a 3.03 was that thru a TAG or a regular application?
And sorry for so many questions, but whats more impacted at UCI
Poly Sci … or Psych?

Thanks

@n.thamass: Nothing is 100% guaranteed, as evident by the screw ups throughout the years

If I were a betting man, I’d throw a lot of money in favor of you getting into UCR.

I didn’t even apply to UCI as a TAG applicant, so it was as a normal transfer. Poli sci isn’t impacted at all at UCI and I didn’t think psych was either.

Hey Guy’s
Thanks a lot for everything … your info is really helping me out.
I’ve got another VERY SIMILAR issue on my hand.

So lets say my overall GPA is a 3.0

BUT my fall gpa is below a 3.0

will that revoke my tag to uci?

No.

The only time your semester GPA matters is for the spring. In March/April you’ll get a conditional offer of admission that will require you maintain a certain GPA for the spring (usually with a minimum of a C in every class and a 2.8 overall for the semester) and the summer if applicable.

Dude! Thanks!

So ok last question.

I know you said this, but just to be clear, as long as I pass my Spring classes with
a grade of C or better i should be fine right?
No matter what that brings my GPA too I assume?

@n.tahmass:

No, you’ll need to maintain your cumulative GPA requirement for TAG (I think that was a 2.8 last year, but I’m not sure.) AND whatever UCI says your spring/summer semester GPA must be by itself (usually a 2.8 as well) AND you must pass all courses with a C or better in the spring/summer.

So if you take a 2 classes in the spring and get two Cs, you won’t be accepted. If you take two 4 unit classes and get an A and a B, you’ll have a 3.0, which is fine (assuming your overall GPA stays above whatever the UCI TAG specifies, which I think is a 2.8, unless it went up this year.)

Make sense?

@Grimes99

Yes it makes sense, just the last part is confusing.

is the 2.8 the gpa from the spring semester or the overall gpa?

you get what im saying?

like (considering it really is 2.8) does my spring gpa have to be above a 2.8
and my overall gpa should always stay above a 3.0?

@n.tahmass:

Last year, I got into UCI without TAG, so I’m not sure what the TAG GPA requirements are. Whatever they are, you need to maintain that GPA requirement (whether it’s 2.8 or 3.0) all the way through your final semester at CC. So basically, your cumulative GPA cannot dip down below whatever the TAG requirement is at any time prior to leaving your CC.

Additionally, in the spring/summer before you enroll you’ll need to maintain a certain GPA that is given to you when you’re offered a conditional admission to the university. Last year, you were required to maintain a 2.8 for the spring semester and a 2.8 for the summer semester. You were not allowed to get anything below a C in any courses you took.

Ok now I understand it fully, thanks a lot for the explanation. Makes a lot more sense now.

Just one last question.

So now my overall GPA is a 3.0

However this last fall (after just receving my grades) my gpa is a 2.83

Will that matter? I mean my overall GPA is still a 3.0

But this fall the semester gpa is a 2.83

?!?!?

No, you’ll be fine so long as your cumulative GPA is 3.0 or above (assuming that’s the UCI TAG requirement.) The only time your semester GPA matters is after you get the conditional offer of admission.

so If you are eligible for tag, meaning everything and have 3.0 UC transferable courses GPA overall (or near but not over 3.3)
you are indefinitely? how do you get rejected for TAG? having a low low GPA or less UC semester credits?
