Is deferral an option or do they straight up accept/reject?

I'm wondering this because if I get deferred from M&T ED, would that mean I won't be considered at all for my 2nd choice (Wharton) until RD (when I then get rejected from M&T)?

Also, is there any disadvantage/advantage at Wharton for rejected M&T applicants?

I can only answer the second question, the answer being no. They won’t even know that you applied for M&T. It will be as if you are a Wharton RD’er.

This is just an assumption, but on the supplement under dual degrees it asks if you would like to be considered for a single degree option. You can choose Wharton/SEAS there. On the very last page, page 5, there’s the “Early Decision Single-Degree Option” where it says,

“We will first consider your application to the coordinated dual-degree or accelerated program, Digital Media Design major, or Market and Social Systems Engineering major. If we are unable to admit you as an Early Decision candidate to the specialized program, and you would like to be considered as an Early Decision candidate to the single-degree option you’ve indicated, please sign below.”

So I would say if you choose this option, you are either accept/reject at M&T. If rejected, given the opportunity to ED at Wharton/SEAS. I think the only way to be deferred from M&T is if you want your single-degree chance to be in the RD round, or no single-degree chance at all.
