Possible to break into IBanking with CompSci Major from UW?

Hey guys,

how hard would it be to break into investment banking, most preferably in NYC, with a computer science major and some finance courses from the University of Washington?

I know UW isn't a target school and the location is pretty far from NY, but its CS program is #6 in the country. With good networking and internships, is breaking into ibanking possible?

It’s so far geography-wise, I doubt it. My question would be who do you network with for “good networking?” The school likely won’t have many if any on Wall Street. It’s just going to be difficult. Unless you have family connections…

anything is “possible” but it is “not-likely”.

Are you male or female?

I do not have family connections. My options are to go to UW or Ivey in Ontario; I know Ivey is a feeder for IB but I don’t want to work in Canada…

@morroismm I am male.

Go to Ivey! There are plenty of people (at the top of the class) that place in LA, SF and NY bulge bracket from there

UW is a non-target

The IB job market is shrinking. Lots of banks are getting out of investment banking so it will be harder to land a job without attending a target school.
