Possible to bring GPA back to 2.50??

GPA is 2.318 with the following other details

Atempted HRS = 161
Earned HRS = 103
Quality HRS = 129
Q Points = 299
And a '2.318' cumulative GPA
I went off-and-on to college from 1989 until 2000

To get back to 2.5 GPA or higher, how many hours college level course would I have to take IF I was sure to only make A's and B's in all future grades????

Is this doable, is this a goal to achieve or is this a futile effort?

hanks

Surely someone in college (read: you) should be able to put together a spreadsheet to figure this out.

Friendly forums.

I can see why your GPA is so low…

At least I am not morally bankrupt and fear God.

That’s admirable, it really is.

But instead of going to church on Sunday, perhaps your time would be better spent brushing up on arithmetic… or searching the internet for “friendly forums.”

Whatever your decision, I wish you all the luck in the world. You’ll need it.

A good amount, but I have faith you can do it!

I’d say it’s a futile effort, but you should go for it anyway. No harm in trying to improve. And you can only go up from there.

Thanks for the help and politeness from my honestly needy question.

bye

It depends how many classes you’ve taken
and how many you plan to take.

And perhaps the other poster arn’t giving you enough credit.
GPA is like this:
If you get an ‘A’ (which is generally from 90-100) in a class (for the semester) you get 4 points
if you get a ‘B’ (80-89): you get 3
C (70-79): 2
and I’ve never known with a ‘D’ and you get none with an F.

So if yo you have 3 classes. one you get an ‘A’, another a ‘C’ and another a ‘B’.
your GPA would be: 3.00
Because you add up all your points and divide them by the number of classes you took that semester.
so: 4+3+2=9
9/3=3.00
But if you’ve taken ‘x’ classes in ‘x’ semester this is not impossible to figure out.
Just keep on adding a certain amount of classes per semester until you reach 2.5.
Btw, you’re going to HAVE to make at LEAST B’s.
Please disregard some on the other poster’s obvious arrogance, as they are obviously being rude.
Especially they rude comment about church, you are obligated to do what you feel is right and under no circumstances should anyone, who is no long a minor or committed a crime (or some other justifiable cause, I can hear half of you trying to shoot me giving me theoretical situations), tell you what to do because they have different values. however do not rip off your brain and DO brush up on some arithmetic.

Actually, ChaiMex, I think I was giving the OP a lot of credit; I assumed the OP has the wherewithal to figure this out. There are even websites that can help, and Google can help find them. The OP started college in 1989 – 20 years ago.

If the OP is too lazy to figure out, well, I’m not willing to help someone like that. If the OP hasn’t tried to figure it out, and there is no indication whatsoever that the OP has, I think the OP should take a crack at it before expecting strangers to do it for him.

If the OP HAS tried to figure it out, he can post what he’s tried to do and ask for assistance; I think in that case, he might get some help.

I certainly hope that he would apply himself to his OWN problem before asking that others apply themselves to it (and I certainly expect that someone who’s capable of college – or even high school – should be able to do this).

ChaiMex Was the only reply that got to the point without making some negative remark about my abilities and soul. I really hope few people take all of your advice.

I’ve seen this in many forums. Someone posts a question and one or more replies is simply “Don’t you know how to use Google? You sound stupid” etc…etc…

I think I’ll call long distance toll phone numbers and go to a physical library before trying this forum again. Too much negative comments, name calling etc…

When answering the question would obviously require information that you failed to provide, yeah, people get a bit snarky.

Such as: *** is a Q point? What are “quality hours”, and what makes them “quality” if there are more of them than “earned” hours?

I was just trying to get some HELP. An idea if improving the GPA from 2.318 to 2.5 was possible? I was attacked by at least three different people, made fun of.

It’s almost like I posted some religious/political post…Does this happen to everyone?

I don’t know what QPOINTS or QHRS means either, I’m just verbatim typing in my post what is on the Transcript. If I knew what those abbreviations meant please believe me I would post it.

Thanks, I guess?

Uh, I thought you weren’t going to come back here. What happened to the “physical library” idea? You don’t have any good libraries in Tennessee, do you?

By the way, good job in posting your COLLEGE GPA thread in the STANDARDIZED TESTS forum. Real smart guy.

amarkov, I think there is enough information provided.

amarkov and axelrose, if you don’t know what a quality point is, read ChaiMex’s post again. If you still don’t know, use Google to find out.

axelrose, of course it’s possible to raise a GPA from 2.318 to 2.5, with enough courses and excellent grades in those courses.

What have you done so far to figure this out, besides post a question here? Have you asked the college how they determine GPA? Have you Googled “calculate GPA” to see whether there are any online GPA calculators? Have you played with the numbers you listed to see how 299 quality points, 129 quality hours, 103 hours earned, etc. translate into a GPA of 2.318? (Here’s a hint: divide 299 by 2.318, and see what you get.)

It’s not “snarky” to expect someone to apply himself to his own problem before asking others for help, especially when it’s such a basic problem. ChaiMex showed you how grade point averages are calculated. If my son came to me with this question, I’d ask him the same question I’ve asked you: what have you done so far to figure this out?

Do you know how to use Excel or another spreadsheet package? If so, you can create a spreadsheet to track your GPA and determine your future GPA given different scenarios (“If I get a B in this class and an A in that class, that will raise my GPA to that, but if I get an A in both classes, my GPA will go up to that.”).

People put a large amount of faith in their hand picked online anonymity.

In response to OWLICE’s 2:58 AM post.

Thanks for some suggestions on how to proceed and call and check into.

Also thanks for, unlike many, personally attacking me for making the terrible mistake of thinking my post would have been seen for all that it was intended:simple request for some help.

It’s hard to ignore personal attacks I guess since I am used to surrounding myself with people with polite manors.

Thanks again OWLICE!
