Possible to cancel SIR for a different school?

So basically I’m a mess. Today’s the last day for transfers to commit to a UC and I have been committed to UCR since tuesday but I am now realizing I actually want to go to UCSD. How do i go about this without messing anything up? I know SIR’ing to two schools could potentially revoke me from both and I do not know how/if I should cancel from UCR and then SIR to ucsd right after. Help anyone?

Try to reach a human being by phone at UCSD and/or get confirmation via email about what to do.

I have, but sadly it’s a saturday and all offices are closed… should I risk it and just SIR to ucsd? the deadline is today and id call both schools early monday to tell them my situation…

There is no tab on the UCR portal to withdraw your SIR? If not, then send an email to admissions today stating you are withdrawing your enrollment for UCR and then SIR to UCSD. Since it is Saturday, even the UC admissions office is closed and will not notice that you have 2 SIR’s at this point. Call immediately Monday morning and verify your withdrawal from UCR and you should be fine. I am sure the UC’s come across this issue all the time with applicants getting off waitlists etc… near the deadline.

@Gumbymom Nothing on the UCR portal about canceling a SIR but there is a link to cancel the application but I think that’s a different thing. And I was thinking the same thing- the offices for both schools are closed so they wouldn’t see it until Monday morning which is when I would call. Also, if both schools were to rescind me (god forbid) would I only be denied from those schools and not the other UC’s I applied to?

They will not rescind you unless you do not formally withdraw from one of the schools. UC admissions usually sends you a letter to state you need to withdraw from one of the 2 schools before taking action. That is why I suggested you send an email dated today to UCR admissions to show in good faith you are withdrawing. Just keep this documentation in case there are issues.

@Gumbymom but generally speaking, those who SIR to both schools and have no intentions of withdrawing will eventually get revoked from the schools. But what about the other UC schools? *this isnt my situation but just curious

Not sure what you are asking about the other UC schools? Are you on the waitlist at some other UC’s? You can only technically SIR to 1 UC school by June 1 but UC’s expect applicants will be withdrawing if getting off the waitlist and SIRing to a UC by the deadline should not change anything in regards to the other UC’s if you are waiting to hear from the waitlist.

@Gumbymom how sure are you? I hope i’m making the right decision… also id like to point out that I did not get off the UCSD waitlist and was accepted from the start if that makes a difference.

Send an email to both schools and to anyone else that seems relevant, dated today, that you are choosing UCSD and withdrawing from UCR. Document, document, document. Follow up with a call to both schools on Monday.

I cannot be 100% sure but as posted above ^^^^ document your withdrawal.

Social sciences at ucsd or ucr ? which sounds better… (sociology)

You can SIR to two campuses. People flip out over this but oftentimes there are issues that make it a necessity. The UCs have flat-out said it’s ok, if just for a brief time. I even saved an email somewhere from UCI to someone who posted it up here saying as much. Just send an email to both saying there is a conflict you are working out which will be resolved in a few days or within a week.

However, having said that if the only conflict is you still can’t make a decision, that’s kind of a low-rent reason and I would take the time to make a decision today.

Are you sure about the first part? Everyone is telling me the same thing but im really nervous

Please don’t double post the same topic. The second was deleted.

I was basing it, of course, on a legitimate reason, not simply because after a month a person still hasn’t made a decision. It’s up to you how you handle it. ? I’m not a fan of a double SIR under these circumstances although it has been done. Now whether they will crack down when they haven’t in the past, who’s to say.

I know its up to me in the end, but would you attend the overall ‘better’ and well known school or the school that might be better for your major/slightly closer

@ilovedogss What did you end up doing?
