Due to some likely intractable scheduling conflicts my D20 may not be able to take SAT 2s until August 24th which may mean a pre read without them. She is a strong HW rower and strong student. The Ivies/D1s that are interested in her either recommend or strongly recommend SAT 2s. Is a pre read even possible under these circumstances? Or is this just a non-starter?
The coaches will be able to give you the best guidance on this, ask them and go from there. I would be surprised if a pre-read can’t be done without subject tests.
I agree, ask the coaches how important it is to have the scores in hand by July or if they need them at all. I know Ivy athletes that didn’t take SAT2s at all, but this could vary by school and sport.
It will depend whether the school uses the scores for admissions. Not sure how many do. When my son was recruited, I believe half did and half did not.
The AI formula for Ivies does include subject tests, but in the many cases where a recruit does not have said tests, the protocol is to enter the SAT I or ACT in place of subject tests, in essence double weighting the SAT I or ACT score.
Non-Ivies will have a different formula/eval system, but off the top of my head I don’t know any non-Ivy DI schools that require (or strongly recommend) subject tests besides Georgetown. And even then, some Georgetown student-athletes did not submit subject tests.
Sat2s are not required for recruited athlete Ivy admission. it may vary by sport, but I guarantee you none (or almost none) of the starting 5 for Harvard men’s basketball had them.
It depends on the school. If SAT2s are required (as opposed to accepted/recommended) for admission for general admits, you will need them for athletic admission.
The AI formula is 1/3 gpa, 1/3 SAT/ACT and 1/3 SAT2s, if required by the school. If the SAT2s are not required, the SAT/ACT score is weighted st 2/3.
The right answer here is to find out which if any target schools require SAT2s for admission. That should be very easy to do. If the schools you are looking at require them, the only way to get a good pre read is to take the tests
