Possible to minor?

I’m wondering if anyone currently involved with Montclair (students, families, faculty) knows if it’s possible to minor in a non-performing (liberal arts/sciences) department while majoring in one of the theater programs? If so, does ability to do this differ by the performing arts major that you’re studying? For example, it might be possible to minor in something else if you’re a BA, but not if you’re a BFA MT? Or something like that.

Thanks!

I wouldn’t say it’s impossible for a BFA MT to minor in a liberal art or science, but it would be difficult and involve taking extra credits beyond what is required to graduate and most likely adding courses over the summer and winter breaks and very possibly not completing it all in 4 years. The requirements for the BFA are extensive - like 92 credits or something like that (not sure of the exact number currently) and then there are gen-ed requirements that fill out the rest, about 1 a semester if you spread them out. Plus the kids are in shows and rehearsals and are really busy. But if your kid is super-motivated to have another minor, impossible is a big word. I would hedge a bet though that once there and immersed in the MT program, they might change their mind. I don’t know anything about the BA Theatre major and if it would be easier from there. My guess is most likely.

Thank you @calliene ! Follow up question–do you know if Montclair accepts AP credits to fulfill gened requirements?

Sorry, @lovetoact, I don’t know. My daughter’s high school in northern New England didn’t even have AP classes. But I’m sure if you call Admissions they could tell you.
