I just started my sophomore year and finished my freshman year with a 3.4, sadly ending honors math with a C- and scattered B’s and A’s. I really do want to get serious this year, and I’m trying to find the mindset to actually just start. But I first want to know if it’s possible to raise my gpa to a 4.0 or higher before my high school years end. I can take some extra classes and plan to take IB courses, but I want to know if all hope is lost yet? I don’t need to get into Harvard or anything, but I mean if I qualify of having a chance to be accepted then I won’t complain.
You can bring your GPA up, but for a cumulative 4.0 you’d need straight As for all four years. I suppose you could retake some of the classes, but, really, take freshman year as a learning experience. Many schools consider sophomore/junior year more seriously than freshman year.
Since you’re asking about improving your GPA to 4.0 or higher, I assume you’re asking about your weighted GPA. If not, then it’s impossible (unless you can get better than 4.0 for classes where you earn an A+). If so, then it’s possible, assuming you have enough Honors or AP options and how they are weighted. I realize you got a C in honors math, but I hope you can figure this out yourself, and then maybe tell us what you find.
You can’t get your overall non-weighted overall GPA to 4.0 because you don’t have all A’s…BUT you can get each semester’s GPA to a 4.0. Colleges like when you do better in harder classes as that shows that you can handle college level work. Worry about the future, and not the past and do your best.
