So I am currently going into my Junior year in high school and I got a 1710 on my first SAT attempt in the fall of my sophomore year. By the time I take the SAT during the spring, I hope to get around a 2100+ on my SAT. Is this possible if I plan to study hard? Also, what additional steps should I take in order to increase my chances of getting a score in this range?
I am currently taking an SAT prep course and have the blue book, BB, and PR, so I plan to read through those and do the practice tests.

I’m in the same boat as you are! I got a 1760 on the PSAT this past year but I’m working towards a 2300…

Definitely possible.

Sophomore PSAT - 176
Junior SAT (June) - 2400

Yes very possible, just use the college board blue book. It will come naturally.

silenceizsik, thats amazing!

Hey silenceizsik, where are you applying?

^ I’m sure I’ll apply to Harvard and Yale, maybe a few other Ivies, but I’m more of an athlete than academic person (Varsity Football, Basketball, Baseball) so I’m looking to play football somewhere, preferrably DI.

I don’t think that is possible. Getting a 1710 then a 2400 isn’t as impressive as getting only a 2400. Colleges would look down on you.

I’m sure if you work hard, you can increase by 500+ points. My improvement isn’t as impressive as silenceizsik’s, but I went from a 159 sophomore psat to 2210 Junior SAT so it definitely is possible to have a huge jump in SAT scores. What are your specific section scores so we can get a sense of what you need to work on?

I would think that sucuh an improvement would make you MORe impressive, not less.

Actually, I read through all this posts and this is going to be his 4th time taking the SAT.

^In my opinion, that shows hard work, dedication and desire to improve. Some may see that as more impressive but less “naturally smart”. Take it as you will, but at the end of the day he still has a 2400.

I read somewhere that on average, people improve 50-60 points. A 100 pt increase is good, 200-300 is excellent, and 400 is phenomenal. However, a 500 point increase is so rare that college board will investigate the case for cheating. In your case, since you took it beginning of sophomore year and will be taking it again end of junior year, I do believe a large jump is possible, simply because of maturity and higher level thinking ( especially if you’re taking ap courses). From January to may, my score raised almost 200, so if you study now and continue for almost a year, I can see a huge jump. Buy some practice books, study hard, and you’ll see improvement!

silenceizsik, very impressed! Wow. Just wow. Thought 300 pts. was the biggest increase possible, so I stand corrected.
