Does anyone know if it's possible to sign a TAG with UC Davis with a D on their transcript? I was reading the official guidelines (found at: http://admissions.ucdavis.edu/tag/criteria/09TAG_criteria.pdf) and I stumbled upon a one-line sentence that has got me worried. It states "Students must have these GPAs at the time their TAG is written and must maintain them throughout the remainder of their transfer work with no grade below a C. The GPA cutoff for my major is 2.9. Does that mean you can't have a D before you sign a TAG, after you sign a TAG, or both? Although I have a 3.4GPA, I did receive a D in a class I forgot to drop at another college. Will this disqualify me from signing a TAG? Also, the D was for an elective class thats not specific to my major.

Thanks

overall gpa, not gpa per class. For every class that you use to meet the tag requirements you must have a C or higher.

Okay, so since I received a D in a class (a class that I will use when I sign the TAG in Fall), does that disqualify me from signing it?

Or does it mean that I can’t receive a D AFTER I sign the TAG?

Thanks,
Sammy

^it will disqualify you

wow… that sucks. That was pretty much my goal over the last year. I’m just surprised that anyone with a D in their community college history can’t do a TAG.

Oh well, SJSU is close by…

^^^ cant you retake whatever you got the d in?

It wont erase the D from my transcript. It’ll only remove it from the GPA.

I wish I dropped that class… I cant believe 1 D made this happen.

I have a 3.4 GPA, the minimum for tag is 2.8, but I can’t do it because I received a D years back.

sammy- you need to contact a counselor at your school ASAP.
i’m positive there are methods you could pursue in order to not have that D hold you back.

Just spoke to a counselor about this and she said that it would only be a problem if I received a D after the tag is approved.

She said as long as my cumulative GPA was above a 2.9 before signing the tag, I shouldn’t have anything to worry about. I just cant receive anything below a C AFTER I get the Tag approved. By the way, itchy, not that I’m doubting you, i’m just wondering where you got your information from? As of now, I still don’t have the answer, just two completely different ones.

sammy- this is the info my counselor at PCC told me as i had a similar situation. in my case however i was able to fill out something called a “compassionate withdrawal” which basically negated the poor grade.

the TAG that i did required passing every course used for the tag with a C or higher.

It didnt mean that you couldnt have any Ds, you just couldnt have any to meet the requirements.

They would have still let anyone sign the tag at my CC as long as you had taken X amount of units at the CC and had the GPA needed - it was 2.8 at the time.

If for example the Tag requires you take a certain course to meet a certain requirement, there are usually other courses that meet the requirement too, Tag usually has some options. .. if you got a D in one of those courses, for the tag i had, i would have had to take another course or repeat that one to get a C in order to use it to satisfy the requiremtn.

^^^ and thats what i was under the impression of as well-
you could have a D as long as it wasnt in a class necessary for a specific req.

Excellent. I plan on transferring into a major (poli sci) that doesn’t have any extra requirements, only the requirements that the TAG has. I received the D in Drama (I managed to attend the class only twice and I still got a D). I only have 5 classes left before I transfer: all electives. I have another question. If the course allows, could I take these as a pass/no pass?

^not sure about that one sammy- i wouldnt think so because you dont get unit credit when you do p/np do you?

You get unit credit when you do pass no pass. You can not do p/np for major courses.

Does Drama satisfy anything on the TAG (like humanaties or something)

Drama fulfills a category on IGETC, and probably a category on the TAG (I know its a UC transferrable course). The thing is, I have other classes that are in the same category (forgot the category) that I received A’s in. So i’m pretty much using it as an elective to meet my 90 unit minimum. I can still do that, even though it’s a D, right? It’s not going towards my major. I don’t have to take any classes towards my major for the TAG, only meet 90 units and university pre-reqs I believe (English, math, humanities, arts, etc) (none are stated on the TAG criterea for Poli sci, so I’m assuming i’ll start working on the poli sci classes when i’m a junior).

That seems odd, did you look on assist.org?

TAG doesnt list major requirements

What is your CC?

From what i remember, and this was 2 years ago that i transferred, so someone needs to verify or correct this, but in order to get any sort of credit for the course- meaning for the transferable course to transfer you had to have a c- or higher, and for TAG , IGETC you had to have a C or higher

Hello,

Sorry for being unclear. I wasn’t talking about major requirements, just the requirements needed to get into Davis. I’m not taking any classes for my major, and I probably wont before I transfer. I know it would help but I’m almost done with 90 units.

I don’t need to complete any major related courses before transferring to a non-selective major, using TAG, do I? I know for International Relations there are, but nothing is stated about poli sci. Isn’t taking a variety of classes (electives) to complete 90 units good enough? Do I HAVE to take courses related to Poli Sci when transferring with TAG?

No you dont have to. It just benefits you to do so. .. makes it cheaper and stuff and less to take there.
