I understand that this is rare, but is it possible for freshman to do this? I was rejected but I am still in love with UVA..but my concern about transferring after one year is that freshman year is the year where people really get 'situated' and make friends...so I was just wondering about this. Thanks!

You can apply in the spring to start in the Fall of 2010. Generally, we do not accept first-years in January.

As a first year trying to transfer, I have experienced some of the negative side effects of telling your new friends you want to transfer, but if they’re really and truly your friends, they will love you regardless (even if they aren’t thrilled with the idea). And who knows, you may learn to love your new university, but if not, you can apply for transfer after your first year. Also, I’ve known a few people to transfer to UVA, and they have all adjusted just fine and made a lot of friends. You really shouldn’t worry about that aspect. Just focus on getting the best grades possible and getting involved in your school. Good luck either way!

But what if they are first-years with second-year standing? (Since it not uncommon to find first-year students at UVA with like 30+ advanced standing AP/dual-enroll credits?)

haha i was just about to ask that question! not that I’m transferring, but I should have 28 credits from AP, and I was just curious to see…if I hadn’t gotten in or something…if that would have counted
