Any advice?
I don’t think any one can give you advice unless you say why you want to transfer, what sort of school you are looking for, what your finances look like, and what year you are in currently.
@intparent
Why: The school I currently attend lacks a social environment that I was hoping for, have not felt like I have grown as an individual, also lack of internship opportunities for my major in the area.
School looking for: So i am looking at Cornell, Carnegie Mellon and various others because I feel like I would fit in well there with the balance of a good city and social environment
Year: 2nd Semester Sophomore Year (Junior by credits)
Academic reasons are the best reason to transfer. Those schools you listed by name are very competitive so you’ll have to be very convincing on why your studies should continue at those institutions specifically. In your case, why are those schools THE fit for you and the place where you will best grow as opposed to anywhere else?
So if you are a junior by credits, then would you have only one year left? Transferring will not help you with internships in that case. Also not sure by what you mean about internships “in your area”. Do you mean there aren’t any available in the city you live or go to school in? Or you want more recruiters to come to the school you attend in your major? You can apply directly, you know – many companies have info on their websites. One of my kids spent her winter break sending resumes directly to companies who said they had internship opportunities on their website – she has gotten to the final interview stage with one of them, too.
You also didn’t answer the question about finances. Can you afford these schools?
@20transfer17- So I have been looking into schools for a while and going to the current institution I am at is not that heavy for my major, so what I mean by that is that they are more focused on EE, CS, CE, since all of the companies in the surrounding feed off of those majors. And I would grow more at another school because the social environment is pretty dry at the current institution there are not that many activities that go around on campus to engage students.
@intparent - I still have 2 years left, the way engineering is structured is that you cannot finish early. Internships not available in the local area and the school does not help out in terms of finding one (career center). So it is frustrating in terms of applying to companies outside of my area. And yes I know I have been applying consistently to many places but I have been getting alot of rejections, it is very rare for MechE from my school to land an internship. I can afford these schools
