possible transfer from NYU

Ok I have several concerns and questions, and if possible I need some real life Vandy students' answers. I am actually looking at both Northwestern and Vandy, but... that's kind of irrelevant right now. Whatever.

Anyway, one reason I am thinking about transferring from NYU is because it does not provide the typical college experience at all, which from what I hear Vandy does. However, one reason I do like NYU is because there is no "typical" student; you don't have to act think or dress a certain way to fit in. I'm originally from the South, and my high school sounds similar to the kids at Vandy. But is it absolutely necessary to be preppy to fit in? Are people generally friendly or are there hardcore cliques? Would it be difficult trying to transfer and find my niche next year (as a sophomore)? Furthermore, how is trying to rush as soph with knowing only a few girls who are from my hs?

Secondly, I have no clue what they're looking for in a transfer. I just finished the semester with a 3.6 GPA which is not bad for college, but I don't know how much they'll weight my hs stuff which went pretty crappy senior year. I had a 3.8 applying everywhere but I think I finished with a 3.7 and my SATS were pretty bad... 1340 or something like that. So... if anyone has some advice for this novel of a predicament I would definitely appreciate it. I don't really feel like listing my EC's haha... but if you feel like they would make a big deal of them, let me know.

Thanks so much!

Your stats are not bad at all. Since you're applying from a good school, you shouldn't have any problem justifing a 3.6 as a good GPA (which it is). All in all, I've heard transfer admissions into Vandy are a bit easier than freshman admission.

According to Collegeboard, 404 kids applied as transfers and only 111 were admitted so its probably slightly harder to get in as a transfer.

As for the student body, there are kids from all over the country and you won't have trouble fitting in. There are preppy kids but also kids with all different styles and overall I've found everyone to be down-to-earth. It may be a little harder to meet people as a transfer, but if you know people from HS they will probably introduce you to people. Also -- joining clubs, a sorority, etc. would also help you meet people.
