Hi I’m a high school senior and I have “recently discovered” barnard…meaning I’ve just recently realized how great school Barnard is and how it might be a great match for me…I’m heading to George Mason next year and I was wondering if transferring from a so-so state school to barnard is at all possible after a year or 2. I’m going to shoot for a 4.0 and I’m willing to work harder then ever but I have AWFUL sat scores…i got something in the neighborhood of 1100’s/1600…should I not even hope of going to barnard w/ my sat scores??? what is your guys honest opinion…I’d really appreciate it. thanks

there definitely is a possibility. barnard is very kind to transfers. the fact that you go to george mason will not hurt you, but your sats might. however, barnard loves well-rounded women who do unique things, so if you really think that barnard is the right place for you, and you show that in your application, i think you have a good chance. but don't go into your freshman year at college assuming you will want to transfer - i have a friend who is having lots of fun at gmu.

I'm going to Barnard next year...let's just say my SAT and ACT scores weren't that stellar either. I think the admissions committee is looking at more than numerical figures to determine if you're a fit

I definitely wouldn't say it's impossible. SATs definitely matter less to Barnard the further you move away from high school. That said, I've heard that some years it's "easier" to get in as a freshman and others it's "easier" to get in as a transfer, so there's no real way to know for sure based on scores. It all depends on the applicant pool. But I'd definitely recommend giving it a try if you're not happy at George Mason. I transferred from a state school, and I think if you show dedication and try to take the toughest classes available (and do well in them), you have a decent shot. Good luck!
