Possible transfer status inquiry

I have an AAS degree. Am I now considered a transfer applicant? I read somewhere that AAS are nontransferable, so applying as a transfer would be an economical mistake (financial aid purposes). I also plan on majoring in something completely different than what my AAS degree is in.

Anybody's thoughts on this?

what's AAS? Is it an associate degree?

Associate in Applied Science degree (AAS)

This is what my community college’s catalog said about the AAS:

“The AAS programs assume that students, upon completion of the AAS, are planning immediate entry into the workforce rather than continuing on to a four year institution. For this reason, many courses in the AAS program are not designed for transfer, nor will they be accepted for transfer at senior institutions. Recognition of this distinction by students will prevent needless disappointment and frustration.”

Any liberal arts courses (English, history, humanities, et cetera) you may have taken might transfer, but your AAS program courses probably won’t. Why didn’t you check with your academic advisor (college guidance counselor) before you started working on your AAS?
