possible transfer student! Got a few frat questions! :)

Hey guys! Thanks for reading this!
I have applied for fall 09 transfer and am hoping ill get in :D USC is my top choice so hopefully itll all go well!

Now, i had a few questions and though I've been trying to google stuff, its not that easy =/ I figured, you all seem like a helpful group so I might as well ask you guys! :)

Fraternities.

Ive seen a lot of recent talk about them and was wondering a few things..

First off, how hard is it to get into a 'good' fraternity? I know that there was a post about it, but apparently you need to look either like Jude Law/Brad Pitt, or be rich like Bill Gates to get in to any of them..
Is it really very very hard? Do they only take like super good looking people ? I'd say I'm pretty good looking, never had any problems, done a bit of modeling, but I'm not like a big muscle boy like the american stereotype jock.. My parents have money, but most likely would not want to throw a lot of money on just getting me into a frat.. Im sure they wouldnt mind paying the fees, but yea.. I couldnt exactly pay my way in..
Honestly, at the moment, from what I've seen on these boards, ATO seems like the one I like the most but this could obviously change.. How hard is it ?
Im a pretty fun/funny and talkative guy and so I've never had a problem making friends, but still, dont know what it takes..

Then, how is the hazing ? Like, what kind of stuff do they want you to do? I read in one of these threads that one of them will make you question your gender.. Whatever that means :P Well, I'm guessing that means theyll make you do 'gay' stuff.. and though I have no problem with the homosexual community, I am not gay and so that kinda stuff isnt for me..

Third, drugs. How much drug use is there really? Someone mentioned a lot of these fraternities develop 'sniffing' problems.. Well, I love to party, but I dont wanna get hooked on coke.. Would this be a deal breaker for some of them?

Thanks guys! And also check out my other thread about grades :P

bump!
please guys help me out, itd be really nice!

Sorry you are not getting any answers but you are asking questions that are kind of “out there” and difficult to answer.

But I’ll give a quick try-

 1. It is not difficult to get in to a good fraternity that is a fit for you.
2. Any fraternity that hazes to the extent to which you are referring would be kicked off the row immediately.
3. You won’t get hooked on coke if you don’t want to. Drugs are definitely not as prevalent as you are suggesting- they are a choice, no one forced.

Are transfers treated any different during rush? I mean, is it harder or easier for them to get a bid from the fraternity they want?

good question! i agree  anyone? bump ?? :)

ns, we’re gonna join the trojan knights man. don’t worry. :)

I would have to say the top houses tend to take only freshmen because they really want you to be part of the house for a full 4 years… I’ve had years where a handful of transfers (2-3) slipped through the cracks because they really fit the description of the house or they simply got along with every active bro during rush, but more recently, I have not seen juniors receiving bids

If you’re transferring in as a sophomore, you have a much better chance… If you’re transferring in as a junior, it will be a very long and hard uphill battle

And don’t worry about the drug culture… Just because people do it and accept it, doesn’t mean they will force you to. It’s drug friendly house is sometimes good because some houses are tightwads when it comes to even seeing or smelling drugs in the house.

ps: zircushio-- The Trojan Knights haze too… In fact, they haze their pledges harder than certain fraternity houses who hazes really lightly or doesn’t at all…

yea zirc, seriously, that would be awesome

ohkay - thanks! that helped a lot, just hope it wont be entirely like that :D
