@jewbacca Im not trying to sound like a b*tch and I know I am. Actually, it is nice you were thinking outside the box. No worries. I do agree that in the end, it is the individual’s responsibility to be pro-active. It also sounds like his advisors might not have been on top of it, but of course that depends on whether or not he saw them these last few months and he might not have.

@lindyk8 lets just be friends :x … Are you single? Women that went to prestigious schools are attractive to me haha. Don’t worry, I am for sure older than your daughter.

@JewBacca - You literally made me LOL! You’re funny :-)

@lindyk8 please respond, I can’t take the rejection :((

@JewBacca Wow, that is a tempting offer because you look like a real attractive guy. :x :x. :x

I’m sure with that physique and styling you’re gonna be catnip to all the UC ladies. B-) Ah, to be young again.

Damn, I never would have thought I would be seeing some romance going on on CC between a parent and a student.

^^^ Parents are people too ;-)

ohh behave @lindyk8

There’s always a first for everything on here

Sigh… I have told many people here, finish everything before you apply, everything. The last course you need to take should be that fall semester when you apply(that should be the latest). Talk to your counselors a semester a head of time so they can tell you what you need. I was very fortunate to talk to a counselor around this time last year. I thought was done with everything, then she reviewed my work, said you were missing a “Critical THinking” course. I was like, “I finished English 102 at WLACC”, she was like “English 102 at WLACC is a humanities course, and pretty much in a Critical Thinking class every place else”. So, I went to Moorpark and took that class and I was done. Students should never wait to take their last courses in the Spring semester in the same year they will be enrolling. It is a risky game to play. The brief time I have been here, I have seen many students panic because something might go wrong and they won’t go to their dream-school.

But look, I read most of the thread here. If there is a loophole, and it isn’t anything against school policy, then take that online course where you can finish. Unless you want to wait a year and will have to reapply again this fall(that is if they rescind you).

Good point @Tik1127. It is crucial to have a good counselor (I emphasize good ) and definitely be monitoring every step of the way.

Sorry I misunderstood. The class that I took that turned out not to satisfy the IGETC Area 3 was a communications class, Survey of Communications. It was listed as qualifying for area 3b when I registered for it in 4/2012, but it was removed for Fall 12. When my counselor told me this I was stunned. I thought that we had “catalogue rights” but soon found out that “catalogue rights” don’t pertain to IGETC. For a few days I saw my (college) life flashing before my eyes. This intersession class saved my ****.

@lindyk8
I don’t agree that a two week course is sketchy. I am currently in a 3 week course (not much difference) to enable me to complete my IGETC due to a course that I was advised to take being removed from IGETC area 3b, after I enrolled but before I took the class. What time frame makes a course become sketchy? Two weeks? Three weeks? 5? 6? All summer session classes at my cc are 6 weeks. I took a short-term 5 week class this spring. All these classes are from California CCs and are on Assist. I think it should be based on the program and the coursework, and the expected hours to complete it. Two weeks, 3 weeks or 17, the work needs to get done for the course to qualify.

I’d do it as long as it’s not major stuff. In almost every single six week summer/winter course I took, the professor plowed through and cut the material. Only exception was a great chemistry teacher.

@UCLAx2 I was talking specifically about a science course with lab.

I’m here to provide an update for everyone.

I was able to get in touch with my admissions officer and explained the situation that I was in. As a result, I was able to get an extension on finishing the IGETC requirements by the end of Summer 2014. I’ve also found a class that will fulfill my lab requirements and have registered for it. Thanks to everyone for their thoughts and concerns. Looks like I’ll be heading to Berkeley after all!

That’s great news!

I am happy everything worked out.

Excellent news!
