Possible UC Berkeley Rescind?? Need help ASAP!

I was told to post this here so maybe one of you guys can help me out.

I got into my dream school at Berkeley, and was just browsing on my school’s IGETC requirements, and realized I had made a minor mistake.

AREA 5 - PHYSICAL AND BIOLOGICAL SCIENCES
(At least two courses, 7-9 semester units: one Physical Science course and one Biological Science course; at least one must include a laboratory)

I accidentally took 2 Physical Science courses (1 with lab), and no Biological Science course. I am planning on talking to my counselor tomorrow to see if I can still get IGETC certified.

Should I contact the admissions officer and tell her my situation?

Berkeley is my dream school and I am so mad at myself for accidentally not seeing the “biological sciences” requirement.

I guess I’d like to know what you usually happens in situations like these. Thanks for your time and attention.

I’m in a similar situation where I want to drop a class this semester that I’m using to satisfy IGETC. What’s confusing me though is that assist says you don’t need the full IGETC to transfer to Berkeley, just the Reading and Composition, Quantitative Reasoning, and Foreign Language requirements for L&S. I also asked my admission officer about this and I’m waiting for a response.

What’s confusing is that these L&S requirements are just a subset of IGETC.

They will probably let you submit a partial IGETC. I cannot say for sure, but I suspect they will as it is clearly an honest mistake.

Update: I listed my AP Environmental Science test score under “Biological Science w/ Lab Component” and I am now not sure this satisfies the IGETC requirement. However, they still accepted me, so am i okay?

Yeah, right, they saw what you wrote. I know it’s stressful but I’m sure it will be ok. I simply dont see them dumping you over it.

@lindyk8 i really hope so! i sent the admissions officer an email asking what i should do, and i will see a counselor about it tomorrow. I read on another thread (a girl had almost the same situation as me), and they extended her IGETC certification until Summer.

@lindyk8 I have seen you post on multiple threads and I wanted to ask for some advice. I got accepted into the College of Letters and Science at UC Berkeley and my admission conditions state that I need a 3.0 at the end of Spring semester. I am currently only taking one course Math 7(calculus 1) and am afraid I may potentially receive a C in the course. Besides talking to my current professor on how critical this grade is for my admissions, what do you advise I do to decrease the odds of my acceptance being rescinded?

@bmirza991 this is a sometimes regrettable outcome with taking just one class for one term, especially if it’s a hard class. Not only might you get a C, but your term GPA will be below 3.0. You really need to work with the professor and try to get the grade (ideally) to a B-. If it is a C, I can’ tell you, by my instinct is they will accept it. But how do I know? You’ve somewhat painted yourself in a corner with just one course in the term. I also suggest you talk to an advisor at Berkeley who can help you. Listen, they really are nice over there. It’s neither to their advantage, nor is it their desire, to toss people out. One class with a C is most likely workable, especially if you reach out and show you really want to make it work.

Has anybody heard of somebody that has had their offer rescinded? It seems like we’re all panicking about the same thing.

Last year no one seemed to get rescinded with a C, although I cannot vouch for really impacted majors. But that seemed to be the case.

@bmirza991 We are seriously in the same boat except I’m taking only calculus 2 my final semester with a high possibly of a final grade of a “C”. I contacted my advisor but no reply yet. Keep me updated on your situation it seems no one follows-up with their contract of admissions situation on this forum.

@lindyk8 thank you so much for your quick & helpful response. I regret only taking one course but I have fulfilled my IGETC and am nearing 71-76 completed UC units.
I am currently visiting my professor for each of his office ours to get help and show him how dedicated I am in getting the B. What do you suggest I explain to the advisor over at Berkeley? Also, I have been accepted to UCSD and have already SIR’d because Berkeley caught me off guard. I am unsure If I should SIR both(heard it can be a conflict) so that If I do receive the C and they do rescind me, UCSD could act as my backup.

@NDN I hope we both pull through and get the B. I was first nervous about being admitted and now Im worried about being rescinded ahhhh!

If anyone else has experience with a similar case, please share us your experience! Thank you!

please share your experience with us!**

@bmirza991 At this point, all you can do is 1) try your absolute best to get your grade up, and 2) contact your admissions officer (which you did) and try to negotiate something with the committee. Best of luck!

Also, an update @lindyk8 : I got in touch with my admissions officer about the situation, and she suggested I enroll in a summer course (which I did) in order to fulfill the requirement. She sent the issue (and my solution) to the committee, and I am supposed to hear back within the next few days. I am hoping they will accept my proposal to extend my IGETC certification until the end of summer. Thank you for your help! I will again, update within a few days.

Good news @dancer581, it sounds like it will go through. Another reason to contact the UC and work with them as soon as possible.

Any word @Dancer581?

@cne1234 not yet! I submitted the letter to the committee 2 days ago, and it can take them up to 10 days to make a final decision. So hopefully I will know within the next week.

Let us know!! I’m in the same boat…

@cne1234 Are you also unable to be IGETC certified by Spring 2015? What’s your situation?

Yep the only class I’m missing is math… Which is a huge one. I’m submitting my paper to the committee today. My advisor said I have extenuating circumstances so fingers crossed.
