Possible w/ a 1.0.....?

Haha, just kidding, I don't really have a 1.0 GPA, but it's pretty bad - I have a 85%ish, or a 3.2-3.4 ish. This GPA is unweighted. SATs are 1400/1600, 2100/2400.

I am applying to several schools, more specifically NYU Stern (EDII), Carnegie Mellon's Tepper, Emory and a few more like RPI, Penn State, Drexel, etc.

After my father unexpectedly died a few hours after healthy release from a hospital, my life changed forever. This was shortly before I entered high school. I was a straight A student in middle school and was pretty much number one or two in my "class." I excelled in math as my father was a PhD in that.

I love technology. I completed several internships in the high tech industry, specifically website hosting and development. I also held three jobs in the industry, all with good remarks.

I own, right now, a five figure application development company. We own two patents under the USPTO. Our application is industry changing and has seen excellent growth. I also, along with my business partner, cater to private clients.

My responsibilities include corporate tax payments, credit management, and fiscal/legal information for the business. I am the CEO and it is a registered incorporation with a solid profile.

Despite my low GPA, does this give me a chance, specifically for NYU Stern, CMU and Emory?

You’ve posted this before. How many times do you need to read that you have a chance but noone can guess how those schools will look at your entire application?

I haven’t gotten many replies, and I’m nervous, lol. They’ve been mixed. :(

OP, no one can really chance you that’s why you didn’t get many responses. Just try your best to write stellar essays to boost your chances, instead of worrying and spending too much time here. Good luck!

Thank you, I submitted my essay for editing to an English teacher and former adcom, hopefully it will be nice.

Thanks :)

Your life story is very unique, and I can sense your great potential within. So your essays will play an important part. :)

sarora

it’s hard for us to give advice here. Many times, students’ grades do not reflect their potential, and their excuses are … well, just that … excuses. In your case, there is obviously a very real and legitimate explanation. However, we have no way of knowing how these things are analyzed in an admissions committee room.

I do point out – though your grades aren’t great – they are far from ‘pretty bad’. Even not taking into account the specific circumstances, you should get into a fine college. If it doesn’t work out now … doing well for a year or two is always an option (of course, you may decide you love the place you get into, in which case all this would be moot.)

Yeah, I know. I take a rigorous course load with many APs, 7, and all 5s on the exams. I have Math to Calculus II and all major sciences - AP Chem, AP Bio, H Physics.
