Is it possible to get into u of m with a high 3.6 (like a 3.67 or 3.69) gpa and a 34 on the act? With lots of ap's (9) and honors classes?

Sure, plenty of people get in with lesser scores.

not even a slight chance. I wouldn’t even bother applying…

Grumpy, contrary to what Sam above sez, DO NOT give up hope, just know what you’re up against: Whether or not you can get in with those stats depends on some other variables…like the caliber of your school, the quality of your recommendations, the quality of your essays, etc. My s. attends a well-regarded school and had a low-GPA-higher-ACT combo. He writes well and received stellar recs and was admitted Early Response. So indeed, it’s very possible. Just know that your present GPA is about 14th percentile for the typical admitted student. Which is NOT to say you can’t make a great case for admission. WHATEVER YOU DO, APPLY EARLY – BEFORE NOV. 1!!!
Good luck.

I believe Sam was being sarcastic.

I got into engineering with a lower gpa, act, and less harder classes. As I said before, there is absolutely no chance for you.

Forgive me, cc and sam. I thought that may be the case but wanted to make sure the kid knew a) that a 3.6 is survivable if there’s rigor and b) but that it’s 14th percentile, so compensate for it. Someone just browsing these boards could get completely freaked out about all the 4.0s (and, in some cases, rejection of late-applying 4.0s : )

also i got a 34 on act and 2060 on sat, shud i just send act scores or shud i send both scores?

your ACT score has the edge, so i would send that only

If that GPA is unweighed, you have a reasonable chance. Apply before in October.

yeah its unweighed and in my english classes (have only taken honors and ap) to get an A its 93.0%, so 92.9% is a b. My teachers said this is called honors grading and that people in u of m look at this. i hope i get in. am going to apply early

^
thats pretty bad. at my high school honors grading actually made a 91 (vs. a 93)% a solid A. and AP grading was an 89.5% for a solid A. umich didn’t have a problem with this as 12% of the school ended up attending (idk on how many actually got in).

depends on your high school strength , i got in with a umich gpa of 3.2…and 2100 SATs

I got waitlisted with a 34 ACT and a 3.9 GPA. As far as I can tell, your chances depend entirely on when you apply… and whether or not your admissions officer got laid the night before.

or upon the strength of your highschool, which when reading through all of these forums seems to be one of the single most important factors in determining admission…and they also dont hide the fact that the earlier, the better…every admissions person i talked to said that

APPLY EARLY. It can’t be said enough. If you apply early, you’ll most likely get in with those stats. However, I’ve learned that many of the second tier private schools put a significant amount of weight on test scores, so you have a solid shot for those as well.

I would like to think my highschool is hard, i am in it atleast top 20% and my school offers almost all the aps. it is ranked in top 500 for best public schools of the country in newsweek. i dunno, but i will apply early, also i just got national merit commended and maybe semi finalist. hope that helps.
