When you apply to different graduate programs, do you get the same professors to write multiple recommendation letters (the max I need at any program is 3), or do you ask different professors?

For reference, I'm starting the application process this fall to get an equivalency degree in Music Therapy.

I certainly asked the same professors. They expect to be writing them for more than one school. If a certain professor has a relationship with one of the programs you are applying to, but for some reason you don’t want them as a recommender for another program, you could adjust who you ask, but I don’t really think that is necessary in most cases.

It’s easier to get all of your letters from the same 3 people, unless you have a compelling reason to split them up.

From a professor’s point of view, the hardest part is composing a letter; once the letter is drafted, submitting it to a couple more places is easy. Professors would much rather submit 10 letters each for 50 students than 5 letters each for 100 students (which would happen if students distributed letters over more professors).
