I'm trying to write a short essay for the prompt "Please discuss why you are considering transferring from your current college or university".
I was going to write about how my mother's passing away made me stay at home and go to my local university, although I'm not sure how I should approach it. I had two ideas in mind:
1. I would talk about how I had meticulously planned out my future but my mother's sudden illness made them go awry.
2. That I was, in a way, forced into my current university, and that I had never felt like it was right for me.

The circumstances of how you came to attend U1 are of interest. However, badmouthing U1 can make U2 wonder whether they want to admit a person who disparages others. The essay should explain why you want to go to U2, not why you want to get away from U1.

If it’s for the institution I think it is, there is already a separate essay for why he wants to attend U2. The primary focus of this one should be U1. There’s nothing wrong with saying a current school isn’t a good fit for you, as long as you do it with finesse and without trash talking them.
