Hey,
I’m an international school student thinking about ED2 into NYU liberal studies core program. I have been reading a lot of forums about this course as I’ve been told its a fairly new one. I think I know the answer to most of these questions but I am very paranoid and I would really enjoy it if someone from NYU LSP can answer my questions.
- I want to apply ED 2 but I want to stay in NYC freshman year, if I get accepted will they force me to go to London/Florence/Paris? I’ve been to all the places on their list, and I want to stay in NYC. I have already chosen NYC as my first choice in the commonapp.
- You get your bachelors degree of your choosing in those 4 years right? As far as my understanding you first do LSP for 2 years for gen ed, then transfer into a degree granting college for the final 2 years. I want to major from CAS.
- Do you get an associates degree? I’m so confused as to why that happens.
So the only difference from LSP and MAP is that the first two years of general education is different right? From there you can graduate from CAS just like everyone else?
I know there’s alot of stigma but that doesn’t really frighten me.
I really appreciate all the answers!
Hi! I’m a sophomore in LS Core.
If you mark NYC as your first choice campus, you’ll probably get NYC. If you get placed at another campus, I believe you do have to attend that campus but you can talk to admissions/LS about it. They want to place people at the starting campus they think they’ll excel at and have expressed a desire to attend. I was admitted with NYC as my first year, but when my mom called to get more information about LS and what it meant she was told that if I really wanted to spend my freshman year at another campus it could be arranged.
You graduate with a degree from whatever school you transfer into in whatever major you choose. For instance, I’m transferring into Steinhardt for Media, Culture, and Communications, so in 2019 I’ll attend the Steinhardt graduation ceremony and get a degree in MCC. Nowhere on my diploma will it say anything about Liberal Studies. They changed that from when my uncle attended in the '80s; he has two diplomas from NYU for undergrad (one from LS and one for his actual major).
No, you receive a bachelor’s degree from whatever school/major you want.
The great thing about LS Core is that you have a direct path into almost all programs at NYU. If a student starts in CAS and wants to transfer to Steinhardt, they have to apply for an internal transfer and it’s not guaranteed. With LS Core, you have what’s called a direct transfer into all programs but the portfolio/audition ones (think Tisch, Steinhardt performance majors, and Stern). Your LS classes fulfill the university core in a unique way, so you don’t have to deal with the hell that is Writing the Essay, etc. Different schools/programs have extra requirements (CAS requires Natural Science I & II, a Quantitative Reasoning course, and proficiency in a foreign language through Intermediate II), but they’re not difficult to complete and your advisor knows how to help.

Thank you so much! Your answers are very helpful…I have been searching for days… is it alright if I pm you for more information? I really want to get into NYU.
@seeniebeenie after completing 2 years at the LS core program, why can’t you transfer to stern?
I would be frightened by the stigma.
