I’m in a similar situation as you, with up and downs throught my school year. All of this was due to my server allergies/ allergic reactions ( I think I may be celiac, and it definately had a impact on my concentration, focus etc…). Junior year, as I intended to get all A’s, it did not happen at all. My second semester is more than likely not what I would call good, though currently my overall weighted and overall unweighted GPA is good ( not counting second semester of junior year) 3.6-3.75 uw, 3.75 w. Seeing a drop in grades second semester junior year ( due to peak of my allergies, when I started having appointments etc…) my grades have been affected.
As I countinue to apply to ( for sure, these are non backups):
University of Michigan- Ann Arbor
Michigan State University
I’m also near 100% on applying to one or all of the following ( good thing about these universities, I’m starting to like them more, seeing less as backups):
Arizona State University
University of Arizona
University of Colorado- Boulder

I also would like to apply to basically all, if not most of the Big Ten Universities.

You have good stats and a good profile but also a couple of problems. First your GPA, while improving, is at best middle of the pack for the schools you are considering. This makes your app a 50/50 proposition. You will need a spectacular SAT/ACT to set yourself apart.

Second, (and in some ways the bigger problem due to the economy), undergrad business programs are some of the toughest programs to get into right now; a visit over to the Indiana University page at CC shows a lot of great candidates accepted to IU but rejected by the business school due to high demand. Normally I’d guess that your stats would get you into IU but these days I just don’t know. You don’t say where you live, but your best bet may be your in-state flagship university.

My other suggestion would be to consider applying to another part of some of these schools. You say you’re good at math, apply to mathematics and economics (or look into schools that have quant econ. programs) and attack the admission that way. Math/Engineering majors are often sought after by business recruiters, either in IB or risk management/actuarial functions. It’s a foot in the door and you can always consider grad school later.

Other schools to consider might be Miami of Ohio, William & Mary, Villanova and Univ. of Ricmond.

Like your other choices, I’d say BC is 50/50, right now. A good ACT/SAT plus a great first semester and your chances improve, a poor start and they dwindle.

You’ve got some very competitive schools on your list, It wouldn’t surprise me if you got into a couple of them but it also wouldn’t shock me if you got shut out of all of them. You need to investigate safety school possibilities.

Here is the 2009 BusinessWeek rankings of Undergraduate Business Schools. Of your original list, USC is the lowest ranked at 21st. A composite GPA of 3.5 and a 28 ACT will put you at the low end of the 50th-percentile. Maybe your GPA improvement and URM status will help your case, but USC has an admittance rate in the low 20% range, making your numbers an iffy proposition.

Rather than asking the board for safeties, I suggest reviewing the schools ranked 25 - 50 to see if any match your criteria, then people can give their opinions.
