So I am going to Pitt next year, but they gave me no financial aid other than $5,500 in loans. I had a 1920 on the SAT, 30 on the ACT, 3.85 unweighted GPA, was the Treasurer and Secretary of two clubs, and I have other clubs and community service under my belt. If I called the financial aid office, would I have a chance of receiving some aid? My family really can’t afford to essentially pay for Pitt out of pocket. Thanks for the help.
Did you submit FAFSA? What is your EFC?
Yeah we submitted it, the ECC was about 29,000. Is that one of the issues for getting no aid? The only problem with that is that a kid from my school who’s family has more money but who also had better scores than me got almost a full ride. Can I do anything about what I received?
Your scores weren’t high enough for merit, your EFC too high for federal or state aid. Merit isn’t based on need.
Pitt costs about $30k instate for tuition, fees and room and board. So you have almost no need.
You will need to look at more affordable schools if your family can’t pay that much.
Pitt is good for merit aid but your stats don’t qualify you.
It looks like your parents will have to borrow about $30k/year for you to attend Pitt. Do you have any cheaper options?
Sounds like the other student got a large merit scholarship. That wasn’t based on need; it would have been based on ACT/SAT.
UPitt is not good with need based aid, and you’d hardly qualify for any anyway. Are you instate?
Did you apply to any schools that would have given you decent merit for your ACT 30?
All those ECs don’t matter a whit, sorry.
Are you instate for UPitt? Where else did you apply?
How much will your parents pay? What are they SAYING??
What is your major and career goal?

whose, not who’s
So…are you instate for Pitt? If so, your EFC is essentially the cost of attendance…no need based aid…but you can take a $5500 Direct Loan.
For merit, your SAT scores would have needed to be significantly higher.
