Possibly the DUMBEST school rule I have ever heard...

There are a lot, but I think this one is the icing on the cake.

I read about this in one of their online newsletters: last year, my former middle school had this rule where the eighth graders were not allowed to use their lockers between 1st and 2nd and 5th and 6th periods. I was thinking "Ok, maybe they did this because there had been a lot of fights breaking out/kids being tardy at that time". Apparently, the latter was observed as a problem, but wasn't the reason the rule was implemented in the first place. The rule was apparently made so kids could strengthen their "critical thinking and problem solving skills in preparation for the FCAT" (for non-Florida residents, FCAT is a [money-sucking] statewide comprehensive test for 3-11 graders). Punishments for breaking the rule included anything from a detention to a suspension.

Idk I just thought that was the stupidest thing ever. Then again, I don't think a rule that stupid would have been carried out for very long considering there would be many complaints from parents... I'm trying to look more into it.

What do you think? Does your school have stupider rules? =]

That’s bull****.

At my school, students who score a 30 or above on the ACT cannot take it again.

jk. My school’s pretty chill.

At my brother and sister’s middle school, they gave the 8th graders lockers like three months into the school year, and gave the 6th graders lockers first. Then, they took away passing periods b/c kids were spending “too much time” at their lockers.

I’m not even kidding. Like, class A ends at 10:05 am and class B starts at 10:05 am in a completely different part of the school.

W.TF?!?!?!

Wait, so are students penalized for being tardy even if their class starts and ends at the same times? And taking away passing periods for lockers completely defeats the purpose…

That’s pretty durn stupid, they’re probably getting paid by the state or something.

At my school, once you leave you can’t come back, unless you went to the doctor. Also, you can’t go into the parking lot until the final bell rings even if you have a note from a teacher cuz you forgot your book or somehting

80% of Middle School Rules were BS.

We couldn’t use lockers between 1st and 2nd period, last periods, or at the lunch periods. Small hallways, 3 minutes between classes when you have classes on opposite ends of the school. They got mad whenever you used them.

my school is in japan, and you are not allowed to trim your brows in any way.
if you do, you have to listen to an endless reprimand by the head of the student lift department how trimming them is going to ruin your life in the long run, and then write a page about how you are never going to bring scissors (or tweezers) near your eyebrows again.

at a nearby boys school, they shave off your hair if you do the equivalent.

A rule at my middle school: Guys and girls are not allowed to feed each other in the cafeteria. Beat you all.

^ what’s the reasoning behind that? prevents middle school pregancies??

[At McLean School, Playing Tag Turns Into Hot Potato - washingtonpost.com](http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/04/14/AR2008041402988.html)

As a Florida resident, I would like to say… F the FCAT.

WOW! My sister’s middle school does the same thing but they say that it is to increase indepedence (???)

Some rules have more reasoning than others, but rules like “no hugging even if your friend’s dad died” and “no tag because kids will get killed obv.” really make me wonder. You can EASILY identify when a hug is getting promiscuous and when a tag game goes too far. I’m guessing it just boils down to schools being really, really afraid of getting sued when a child gets injured.

All these issues make my dad even wonder how he survived in his days, when he was exposed to mercury many times (they recently shut an ENTIRE SCHOOL DOWN because of some little elementary kid with a bit of mercury) and kids normally broke bones on the playground several times.

At my friend’s school they weren’t allowed to use the bathroom unless they had a GPA of above 3.5. No joke. It was to prevent vandalizes. (If you were one of those who had below a 3.5 then you had to receive written permission to walk down to the middle school to use the bathroom there…escorts were often assigned)

At my school (a high school, btw), students aren’t allowed to go out.

1st time caught: Loooooong lecture.
2nd time: Call Parents
3rd strike: Expelled

My local middle school wouldn’t let parents bring their kids lunch if they forgot it, “because they need to learn and you can’t do that in high school”. Except you can. In fact, everything they said “You need to do this for high school” was a lie.

Holy ****

^^^ I’m sure a LOT of parents complained about that. That is way ridiculous, probably abusive. Was it a bad school though? Was it only during class time, or was it throughout the entire school day?

^ What the hell? Seriously. The cursive thing ESPECIALLY.

^^ to the quote…
■■■■. I believe that’s a violation of rights.

Maybe it was stretched a bit though, like the middle school was really close or the vandalization was HORRIBLE or there were very few kids with lower than 3.5 GPA’s or it was only during class time or something.

Well either way, that’s still bad. I can’t imagine something like that being implementing for long.

That’s what I said! It was an inner city type school (with tons of vandalization) with an adjacent Middle School but stillll Bathroom Privileges based on GPA… According to my friend it was a permanent policy - they even had some sort of key cards for the +3.5 GPA students so they could access the bathrooms. Although, he moved several years ago so they probably have changed it by now. (Disclaimer: All from my friend haha so I can’t verify its accuracy)

Oh (and this is a different school…my school) whenever there are vandalizations in the guy’s bathrooms they’ll lock all the boys’ bathrooms. Most of the time they’ll leave one open for the whole school but there have been several times where none have been left open - the nicer teachers will normally allow the boys to sneak into the teachers’ lounge to use the faculty bathroom. They haven’t done that in a couple months though because of parent complaints. (This I can verify)

And yeah, our school has the whole middle school limited locker privilege deal.
