I'm currently an undergrad at UF but I'm thinking about transferring to Penn State. Can anyone give me advice/information about which has a better program for Elementary Education (my major)? It seems like UF has a good program so I don't want to leave if Penn State doesn't have a particularly strong program as well. Thanks

I doubt that PSU’s ElemEd program is better than UF’s.

What are your parents saying? Will they pay a LOT more money for you to go to PSU? If not, then the question is moot.

I’d guess the two programs are similar; why are thinking about transferring? Another factor to consider is where you hope to teach eventually. It can be helpful to have a degree from an in-state school.

A quick google indicates that both programs are competitive with similar rankings. Hopefully, a PSU student can provide some additional information regarding rigor, etc. Agree with 1moremom about where you hope to teach. While I can’t speak specifically to the College of Education – Elementary, the Penn State career services and alumni networking is really exceptional.

BTW, whether you’re in-state impacts cost. Fact check yourself.

Penn State has a great elementary education program, but it costs $46,000 a year to attend PSU as an out-of-state student. Where do you live?

I’m originally from PA but my parents recently moved to Florida so that’s why I’m down here but I would like to end up in PA after college

Unfortunately, you’ll be paying out-of-state rates then, @sandygirl175.

I agree with mom2collegekids. I honestly doubt PSU’s program is better UF’s. While ElemEd is a decent major, ROI for it is going to be incredibly low (especially for students like you) because the cost of attendance of out-of-state students is incredibly high. Overall, it is not worth “$200K +” for you and your parents to invest into a PSU degree.

As long as you have a good GPA and resume, you can get a decent job as a elementary teacher.
