This is my 1,000th post. I wish it had magical powers.

I would use it to turn your denials into acceptances.

I would use it to turn the 0 – 5% of candidates who will actually be pulled off of waitlists into our candidates and I would make sure that all the calls come quickly.

I would use it to give wisdom and clarity to those of you blessed with more than one option, so that you could know your best fit without your parents having to take days off of work to drive or fly with you around the country.

And I would use it to give my own son at least one option from all the schools he applied to that said, “no.”

For those of you who know adults who attended these schools, please know that many, if not most, of us would not have been admitted if we had had to compete against you and jump through the hoops that the schools have asked you to jump through.

Perhaps the places we were able to get in prep school were our reward for living in an era . . .

without “Glee” and “Big Bang Theory”

without “spell check” (imagine writing those application essays by hand!)

and without cellular communication. (If we came home from school while Mom was out and found 140 freshly baked cupcakes on the kitchen counter, we couldn’t call Mom’s cell and ask, “Hey, you don’t actually need these for anything, do you?” No, we had to rely on our hunger to guide us . . . and that rarely turned out well.)

You live in an era with some amazing tools at your fingertips. If you are stuck in a crappy school next year, find a way to use those tools to change your life. Do an online course, learn about the homeland of one of your CC buddies from overseas, steal an idea from your dream school’s course catalog – and do it as an independent study at your school next year. And on those days when life at your school is simply unbearable . . . watch Comedy Central when you get home.

And be glad you don’t have to walk ten miles through the snow every day to get to school . . . like we did. :D

Great post!

Thank you for all your many contributions to this board.

Milestone reached! Congrats :)

@Dodgersmom, you are one of my absolute favorite people. Bravo!

Well. I have been impressed by many thoughtful postings of both Dodgersmom and ExieMITAlum. Brave!

Also, for many other parents and kids, sometimes I almost cried when I read stories sharing joy and sorrow. You are all heroes and heroines for your kids and for your parents. Bravi!
