We kept our daughter completely informed about every aspect of her school search including what was possible and what was not possible financially. When you put a kid into a school they often have to deal with situations created by the details of how they got there and how their stay is being paid for, and I wanted to give my daughter a solid, factual knowledge of everything.
But on the original subject of getting a letter from NU, we did!
My daughter applied to the school, got accepted enough to be offered an audition, but decided the school was not for her and declined. Shortly after the audition period passed we got a letter from the professor of her instrument there asking why she didn’t audition after all. It wasn’t a form letter and was, well sort of sad. Stranger still was that she had never met, let alone taken a lesson with this professor. It was a polite letter and all, but we couldn’t help wondering why they bothered to write - this desirable school should have had no problem filling all the spots. I think NU is different from a lot of other schools.
