Post-Bacc for Engineers

Hello,

So I am looking to obtain my master’s in the future, but my undergrad grades were not the best due to extenuating circumstances.

Right now, I have a good job as a ChemEng, working in my preferred sector. Down the line, my years of experience will most likely make up for the grades when looking for other jobs. I’m not sure that it will work the same way for grad school.

I don’t think I necessarily need a graduate degree, but it is something that I would like to have at some point. I am thinking of obtaining one of those professional degrees, which offer a combination of engineering and business aspects. I think this would be helpful when my career transitions to more administrative-type roles in the future.

Question: Would a post-bacc in engineering be worthwhile, to demonstrate that I can handle the material? If so, which programs are recommended? Thanks.

You might want to look for a program that considers your job experience as a plus and is willing to admit you on a probationary basis. This would allow you to take a couple of courses part-time and prove your ability to handle the material. My experience at Illinois Tech is that students coming for a masters after having worked for a few years are highly motivated and focused and do better than their undergraduate record would indicate.
