Post College Career Decision

Hey everyone so I’ve been debating a lot on what to do with this current job offer I have.

It is my senior year, and I’ll be graduating with a Mechanical Engineering degree at the end of the year. I just received a job offer as a technical consultant for a software developer, and I would be primarily responsible for some integration, proof-of-concept models for sales, and troubleshooting.

I was originally interested and am still interested in the job offer because of my experience the last couple of summers in large aerospace and defense companies. I have enjoyed the work in general, but between the massive amounts of red tape, costs associated with qualifying a new product, and emphasis to specialize I’ve become frustrated.

Because of that I thought a move into IT style consulting would have a much faster-pace environment, and chance to make a greater impact in a company. However before I go through and accept the offer I am worried that it may be too quick to change career paths. Since my last internship I have been looking a lot into different aerospace start-ups which I hope would provide a lot of the things I’m missing in my work .

So while I can’t shake the feeling that I’ll be missing designing and understanding how things work; I think it might be even more foolhardy to reject a still enticing job offer with nothing else open right now.

With all that said I was wondering if people here have had any experience with IT consulting, aerospace start-ups, or a general career change like this?
