Post College Enrollment Scholarships - SAT?

Well, let me just start by saying I messed up. I didn't take scholarships very seriously, and, consequently, now only have about 10k worth of scholarships to show for it.

I want to make sure that I don't make this mistake again. I have a few questions that, when answered, I think will help me understand how to find and receive scholarships.

1). When applying for scholarships after I have enrolled in college (during my freshman year) is my SAT score still going to be reported? I got a 2000 (740M, 660R, 600W) and know I could get a lot better if I were to study. Is there any incentive to retake it for the purpose of future scholarships?

2). One of the scholarships I received, the Washington State Opportunity Scholarships, was incredibly easy to apply for and get. There were 3,000 different $1,000 (renewable) scholarships given out to Math/Science based students. Is there a specific name for this type of scholarship? And how do I find more of them?

3). Where is a good place to look for scholarships? I used a website called "Washboard.org", but I don't think it was very good.

4). Back to the re-taking the SAT question. Is there any other reason why I would want an improved SAT score? Post-grad applications (law school/business school/engineering)? Internships? In-college scholarships?

Thanks!

Frankly, if you need scholarships to afford college, then you should take a gap year and reapply to the SCHOOLs that give them.

There are far fewer scholarships for current students. Usually students can only get them from their OWN college from the major dept and they will be small, for one year, and given to the tippy top students. For instance, my son once got a dept scholarship for being the best student in the dept, but it was a one time $800 scholarship…nice but didn’t make any real difference…paid for books one semester which was nice.

With your M+CR score, you could have gotten much larger scholarships from the schools that award them.

I’m attending the University of Washington this fall. So it’s around $25,000/yr to go there (probably less if I join a fraternity). I got a $13,000/yr scholarship to Gonzaga, but it was still $25-30,000/yr to go there.

I would like more information regarding taking the SAT! Deadline to sign up is today for the June 2nd.

Also, I’d like some help with finding other scholarships, even if they are small!

I don’t think the SAT is going to matter at this point.

What are your parents saying about paying for the amounts that are owed?

You need to contact the schools to see if a higher SAT score will net you more scholarship $ (it will at some schools).
