does this matter to you guys? i don't understand the point of post counts, it seems as if it's a way of rating how "effective/helpful" people are, but the fact is there are some really ignorant people who have high post counts... i guess what i'm trying to ask is... WHY IS IT THERE?

almost all forums have it...it doesn't mean anything really

right i realize that, but it seems kind of trivial, i know some people that post because they want to see the numbers go up (i'll admit, i used to be one of them... in the days when i had to use a second sn... lol)

lol I agree with you cujoe, but for some reason, it just feels so good having a high number! idk its hard to explain. In any case, it is one of those unexplained awesomenesses or something....I'm pretty lost...

What does junior member, member, senior member, etc. mean? I'm pretty sure it has to do with the number of posts, but I'm not quite sure.

Those are only nicknames you get at certain postcount threshholds. Search the forums and you will find a full explanation. You will level up at 300 posts (member).

Yeah, it has to do with the number of posts. You become a member when you have 300. I'm not sure how many posts are needed to become a senior member.

^I think its 1000 for senior member?

0-29: New Member
30-299: Junior Member
300-999: Member
1000+: Senior Member

How do you become a moderator then?

Moderators are people that moderate the forums, I think those are people who created the forums or applied.

Haha, yeah.. you can't just become a moderator and run the forum by spamming up posts..

Anyway, I think post counts are helpful to some extent. they don't really indicate who's helpful or who's better.. but they help us recognize who just came into the forum or who's been here. without the post count, everything would seem so blah.. we couldn't see the growing community.

I believe that is why "Join Date" is listed above your post total. But even that doesn't credit lurkers for the time they spent browsing . . .

Yes.. "Join date" fails to show activity.

I've been on CC for 2.5+ years now, but got my accoutn frozen recently and had to start all over. post counts are relatively meaningless, especially when you see people like xiggi who've been around a lot but doesnt post all the time.

I think it would help if posts were evaluated and rated using a system like Amazon.com: A graded bar put at the bottom of each person's post asking: "How helpful did you find this post?" and CCers could rate the post (out of 5 stars) after reading it. This system would help people sift out the most useful answers on the boards and if the ratings were cumulative, members could be given a rating according to how helpful their comments have been.

i know another site that has a self moderating system where stars were given for helpful things and x's for useless junk

cool! which site?

That just further complicates things, maybe it's just me, but unless there was an excellent post, I wouldn't even bother...lets not have CC degrade into a popularity contest, or make it into a game thereby stealing all our free time and having none of us get into any colleges better than Bob Jones University

god, bob jones U is creepy...i'd rather stay an uneducated cretin

i think post ratings is a good idea to curb posts that are pompous, offensive, etc, but impractical because it'd be too easily abused by people with personal vendettas.

posts really don't mean anything, i'm about as useful as laxatives for an incontinent person (...okay, that merited an "x") but have a higher post level than many extremely helpful people because i play silly games on procrastination sprees. i actually don't really want to be a senior member, because considering my join date, it would indicate i have no life. (which may be true)
