Post-Decisions Thread

Hey everybody! I just thought we needed a new thread to discuss things (decisions, life, plans, etc.) To everyone who was accepted: "Congratulations!" And to those deferred: We all believe in you and are confident that you all have an excellent chance in Spring.

...Discuss away! ;)

Oh... I have one question for Aluka- when can we expect the larger envelope of stuff (i.e. how long did it take for the larger envelope do get to you after your notification)? Or do we even get one?

Calidan- Did you get a phone call from a Gtown student? If not, I suspect you will very soon because they're calling all acceptees! I just got off the phone with the sweetest guy- we had a half hour conversation all about Gtown and now I'm even more excited. I'm almost wondering why I'm still filling out these other apps...

They call you? That's so nice! I can't wait! I'm so excited... What did you two talk about?

I know! I was so surprised- when my Mom said "It's someone from Georgetown" I was like "OMG! What if they want to tell me they sent the wrong letter!" But the call was totally great. I asked him wayyy too many questions about:

Being Jewish at Gtown
Being a liberal Democrat at Gtown
How hard SFS is and if it's possible to get A's, and also if it's very competitive
If students actually get "celeb" professors, like Madeleine Albright
How expensive it is to live there (and to go out)
If it was really shocking (in terms of managing time and all the work) when he got there
If he had any regrets about going there

So yeah, I think that's about it. If you're interested in any of those question I'd be more than happy to pass on what he said. Are you exicted though? I'm so freaking pumped!!!!!!!!!! :) :) :) :)

I am SO excited. And I hope you don't mind of I borrow some of your questions (I'm not very good with coming up with questions on the spot).

PS- I told you that you were going to get in. All that self-depracating for no reason! LOL. :)

Hey no problem. I'm an open question sharer!

Thanks for having faith in me before! I swear, from the bottom of my heart (no "fake" self-deprecating **** here!) that I didn't think I was going to get in. Hence the reason I hyperventilated when I saw the letter! You still didn't tell me- when did you get it? How did you react? Did you celebrate yesterday?!

Edited to add- I have GOT to finish one more essay so I can mail this other app (lol- I'm so not going to get in, let alone go!) So I'll check back with you later, k?

I'm a fellow future Jewish Hoya!

I haven't gotten a call from a student yet though. I'm looking forward to asking some questions though now.

edit: I'm a liberal dem too

hey Lauren, we should create a new organization: The Jewish Liberal Democrat Hoyas Club.

Yay for Jewish, liberal and Democratic Hoyas!!

:)

I hope being Jewish at a Jesuit school isn't too weird. That said, I'm actually kind of intrigued to take some of theology classes, like "Problem of God". Sounds like interesting stuff.

"I hope being Jewish at a Jesuit school isn't too weird."

The school is disappointingly/luckily very, very secular (depending on your take).

"That said, I'm actually kind of intrigued to take some of theology classes, like "Problem of God".

Sadly, theology is only a middle-of-the-road department, which is strange for a religiously-affiliated school.

Oh, and lauren, what were your stats?

Yeah, Lauren, I got my letter yesterday (totally unexpected since I live in California!).

I was out to lunch with my firends, and we started talking about college. When they ropped me off at my house, they asked me to go check if my letter had arrived. I was like "OK, but it probably won't be there. They only sent it out on the 10th..." And then, after routing through the mail, I found it. The small envelope from Georgetown University. I sprinted back to the car and opened it with my friends (I had an ikling as to what its contents were, since I felt that there was more than one piece of paper inside. Thanks for this tip, BTW! Whoever said it...) My heart, however, sank after I started reading the letter, since the first word wasn't "congratulations!" But I kept reading until my eyes glided over the word "pleasure," and then I screamed (or rather garbled) something like "I got in!!!" The we went crazy.

I went back inside my house and called my family and friends. After that, I ran back down to the school to tell some people there (friends and teachers). That night, I had a piano recital, too. When I got back from it, my family threw me a surprise acceptance party with a cake (with icing that said "Hoya Saxa" :)) and champagne. It was great.

I still can't believe this is happening- it's like the best dream I've ever had (I actually did have a dream in which I was accepted to Georgetown, which was a very happy dream- until I woke up!). And now I am seriously considering just blowing off all of my other applications.

Congrats, everybody! We all worked hard for this! (So did the people who got deferred, which will pay off come Spring! I just know it!) :D

i have a question for EA acceptees... is georgetown your first choice, why/why not, and if not where would you rather go?

Dan, that is awesome! That party must have been incredible, esp. with you riding on the acceptance high. (not to mention the bubbly) Strange how we both got good dreams the night before about getting in...great minds think alike. Man, this is so great. I still have apps out for Harvard/Yale/Columbia, but I'm almost set in my mind that I'm going to Gtown, whether or not I get into any of those 3. I'm only keeping them in b/c I already paid the fee, and plus, wouldn't it be great to say I got into Harvard, but I had to go with the Hoyas. Blue beats crimson in my book!

The party really was awesome. And great minds do think alike, don't they?

Oh, and a little off topic, but I'm also applying to Harvard and Yale! Cool. I really don't think I'll get in though, since it's practically impossible. ;)

Yeah, but I had thought that much about Georgetown. I personally feel that my essays really helped me stand out, so if they were good enough for Georgetown, I'm certainly optimistic that they're good enough for those two schools.

I haven't gotten a call but I probably will never know if I do or not because I'm NEVER home, nor do I ever answer, carry, or charge my cell phone.

SOOOO excited though. Every five seconds I just picture myself strolling around DC and I'm like AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.

Seriously waiting for them to send a letter saying "just kidding we sent you the wrong one"...that happened one year to Cornell kids. How awful.

Is anyone going to the Open House thingies? I doubt I will (flying out East is super expensive).

I think I will, esp. because I've never visited campus, only the Georgetown area. (due to severe time constraints)

Hey there everybody. Congratulations to all who were accepted Early Action here. It's finals time, so campus is really quiet and everyone (especially me) is looking for ways to procrastinate. I'm happy to answer any questions about Georgetown, so ask away.
